Re: guitar that hooked you on Ibanez?

Ibanez Jem7vwh!! Got it after selling my Gibson Les Paul Studio. Never looked back. Since that I have never regretted Ibanez (except for some of the prices they ask for their guitars). I also now own an Ibanez RBM 10. Love it to death as well

Re: guitar that hooked you on Ibanez?

My first Ibanez hooked me on Ibanez forever: A 1988 road flare red RG550. I paid £400 for what was the best guitar I ever owned, even felt better than my 1990 RG750PN which cost twice as much. There's nothing like those old RG's.

Re: guitar that hooked you on Ibanez?

The 77FP what a guitar. I bought it at our local music store in 1991. It had been hanging there for a long time. No one was ever interested in it. The store owner said not many players even asked to try her. So I bought her. 1500.00 with everything tax included. I sold her not long ago and wish I never did. I also owned a 1985 signed paper label PRS whale blue w/bird inlays. Another sad mistake in selling her. Since then I have owned many Ibanez guitars and always will. I also rebuild them and make customs. I am currently building a JEM 777VSK. 550 body and an original JEM neck and original pink Paf's. It is about finished just waiting to get it refretted. Something I don't do, as that is a skill in its self. If I can I will post some pics here. I am very new and still learning the ropes here. Thnx, 39

Re: guitar that hooked you on Ibanez?

The guitar that got me hooked on Ibanez was a friend's RG550 in Lazer Blue with pink pafs. After months of pestering my parents, they bought me an Ibanez EX370FMTB for my 9th birthday...that guitar finally died just before my 16th birthday. Next was an RG550, then a JEM, and another Jem, and another, and another...

The JS on the cover of "Flying in a blue dream".
That along with the UVMC are still 2 guitars i would really love to own.
The minute i saw that guitar back in '90 i knew i had to have a JS. It took me 4 years but i did get there in the end. Now sadly it rarely gets played and i'm an RG/JEM convert.

katrina's rg120. (which i am currently "borrowing" at the moment ) even though it's a cheapy, it plays better than my jackson, and that wizard neck, man, feels like it was made for my hand. then, i definetly knew as soon as i played a 7vwh at sam ash. i was floored.

Re: guitar that hooked you on Ibanez?

I bought a Universe UV777GR in 1993 but the funny thing is I didn't get hooked then, nor did I know anything about any other Ibanez guitars. I only wanted a 7 string and never looked beyond that. Then around 2001 I wanted a new 6 string after playing a humbucker/Floyd Rose modified Strat for 20 years. In a used shop a friend of mine goes "What about that one?" pointing to a beat up RG 550. It's almost as if something clicked right there. I bought that one for $250 and aquired 3 more after that. Still prefer the first one though.

Re: guitar that hooked you on Ibanez?

You probably won't believe it, but...

It was a Jem 555.

I was hooked on the shape of the body and the ability to get really high up the fretboard because I was used to playing Les Pauls. That was what inspired me to seek out a 7VWH (but Jesus, when I did, bye bye 555 lol)

Re: guitar that hooked you on Ibanez?

my first Ibanez was a RG320..nothing much compared to my NEW 550!!

So I guess my RG550 has really got me addicted to ibanez or at least older ibanez's.

Re: guitar that hooked you on Ibanez?

S7420FM. bought one from gutiar center years ago. I just wanted a cheap 7 string to play a couple dream theater songs. Then i played it in the store, played that S series and got hooked. It had a super nice neck and I was instantly turned away from Gibson. Of course then i moved on to playing some prestiges which had even nicer fretwork. Great guitars.
