Guitar Revamp day!

Had a few surplus Ibanez parts and So, I decided to revamp them. Body is a RG520QS body which has been sand off and finished with Oil (Tung and Tru). Neck is a Korean Wizard II which has been shave off to Prestige thickness. Tremomo's a Gotoh. Here are a few pictures of the complete product.

Re: Guitar Revamp day!

I was about to do something similar to my 520 body, what method of stripping did you use?

This guitar was made with surplus parts I had put together. All the original Edge that I have are with guitars with the Super wizard/Wizard necks (2x RG520QS, a custom Jem and an Old heel block RG550)

I wouldn't mind an original edge if I had one but since I have a Gotoh Floyd sitting around and the radius matches the 400mm radius, why not.

As far as I am concern, Ibanez uses Epoxy (Or so I would believe) to finish their guitars. No amount of thinner or paint stripper can work on the paint. I actually sand it down with zero grit sandpaper, with Hand. (Yes no palm sander) LOL.

lol, caught that after I posted it. I need to read better, but I was so excited by the look of the finish that I just looked at the pictures and scanned for the parts he used. XD

That's interesting. how did you get such a clean finish on the quilted top then? Did you just go back over it with some fine grit and emery cloth once you finished getting the paint off?

I finally finish up with about 300 grit sandpaper. After that, during the oiling process, I used the Sand in between coats method to achieve that smooth surface. On hindsight, I should have even out some areas as it makes it much easier to get a uniform coat of Oil.

However, do take note on sanding, especially the sides. As this is a veneer top, it is VERY easy to sand off the veneer. I guess I was just lucky.

Re: Guitar Revamp day!

Thanks. Just ordered a set of Dragonfire Chrome screamer humbuckers intending to swap out the V1 and V2. Wonder how will they perform in this guitar. Anyone here has experience with the Dragonfires? Been reading up good reviews in the net for those.

I bought a set to swap out of my RG350 and I ended up putting the originals INFI's back in. did not like at all. as far a bargin pickup, GFS can't be beat.
