Yes. Apparantly he was interested in the way Charvel made their necks.

Re: Guthrie Govan switching to Charvel

Are people going to think any less of Suhr because Guthrie Govan has started using Charvels? I doubt it. Those Charvels are cool guitars. And yeah . . . looks a lot like his Suhr.

Re: Guthrie Govan switching to Charvel

I agree, although GG has had several signature models from Suhr, I'm sure that most guitarists who play Suhr guitars couldn't name a single song he's written. Guthrie is perhaps the most technically gifted guy out there at the moment, but there's a part of me that thinks his popularity is almost inversely proportional to his ability...

The cat sure can play and I wish him all the best whatever guitar he's using

Re: Guthrie Govan switching to Charvel

This happened 3 weeks and, I believe, 2 days after I brought home a hard-won GG Antique Modern.
I found that ironic...

Having said that, it does nothing to detract from my fascination with the instrument; I do have Guthrie's various videos with that model to thank for putting it onto my radar (and secretly I still hope that, somewhere in there, there's a couple of strands of GG DNA that will integrate with me and elevate my abilities on the guitar =])...
But those models are born of Suhrs existing range of options; regardless of what comes of this, Suhr will go on, and those models will go on - just without the laser etched GG signature on the back...
I'll continue to watch what develops with this move... certainly made for an interesting prototype; wonder if they have, or are yet to, addressed the blower switch feature on there (which at Fender is called Passing Lane I think... basically 'hidden' within a knob, where the core of the knob is the push-push switch top... very clever really...)

What I find amusing is GG somewhat disparaged 24 fret guitars not too long ago, now he sees the function?

????......he has always predominantly played 24 frets.
But its true that a neck p'up always sounds better on a 22 fret due to position, maybe that was his point.

Re: Guthrie Govan switching to Charvel

GG's Suhr guitars were on my "dream axe" list. The "Antique Modern" version seemed like a guitar I could use for anything and everything.

Oh well, hope the used market has some available when I have more funds.

Likewise on the Antique Modern.

Apparently there's only one of those Charvels excisting atm and it's in - naturally - Guthrie's possession. Wonder how long it'll take for the new GG Charvels to hit the block?

Re: Guthrie Govan switching to Charvel

John Suhr has confirmed his company will continue to offer the GG signature models but without the signature, so there's nothing to worry about there. What will intrigue me is whether there'll be any talk of 'mojo' in the early ones like the EVH musicman guitars and the 'first 500' dual rectifiers...
