Have $600 to spend on an Ibanez...please help.

I want to join the Ibanez family and have $600 to spend on it. I want the Ibanez mainly for soloing/shredding....so speed/fast neck and ease of playability are the most important.

Any recommendations what's the best Ibanez I should get for that price considering what I want it for?

Thanks you!

Go for a used RG5XX or 7XX series. An RG550 or RG770DX would be my personal choice. For what you're wanting to spend, you can get a nice clean one with a case, that's already has the pickups upgraded. You get the Original Wizard neck profile, and either an original Edge, or Lo Pro Edge tremolo with locking studs. Just decide whick neck joint and color you want, and start looking. --Jason

I completely agree that this is your best alternative for your price range. I just played someone's RG520 and it was an extremely nice guitar. The guy said he got it used for 400 bucks and he only changed the bridge pickup.

Im tempted to get an RG1520GKBK for the gk2 pickup built in, got a roland GR-1 which is ancient but still sounds great.

I just bought a new RG2550 with the case for $675! No need to upgrade anything! If you hunt around, you can find new guitars at great prices.

Re: Have $600 to spend on an Ibanez...please help.

What's the difference between the RG550 and the 570?

Also, some of these RG550s are like ten years old, what makes them better than say....a brand new RG350, 370, etc.??

RG550's are impossible to find in Toronto, let alone a good condition one. I saw one in a store for $689 in ok condition.

Thanks!

Re: Have $600 to spend on an Ibanez...please help.

RG550 has a pickguard and a maple fretboard, RG570 has a rosewood fretboard and is rear routed so 570 doesn't have a pickguard.

And my vote goes for RG770DX.

Re: Have $600 to spend on an Ibanez...please help.

Personally, I wouldn't buy one that's like 10 years old but I would jump on one that's 5 or less. Also, I think that some of the RG550s actually had rosewood fretboards but the maple fretboard 550s are more sought after. What separates them from a brand new RG350/370, etc. is that they are made in Japan instead of Korea (and now Indonesia), that are made out of higher quality woods and materials, AND (and this is really the most important difference for most) they come with either an Original Edge or a Lo Pro Edge which are among the better trems that Ibanez has made instead of the Edge III which, while it is definitely a step up from the TRS trems, isn't quite as high quality.

Get two 550s off the bay, and use the rest of the money for pickups!

you might have spotted a trend in the opinions given on this thread!!!

so many RG550 owners cant be wrong, I have a 450 and would never sell it, once you get them set up to your liking its shred time !!!!

Yes When i bought my 1527 I only payed $560 total for it + case new

I would say a rg550 is hard to beat (maple board FTW) - you can probably find a 1550/1570 for a pretty nice price if you hunt around a bit..
