Help finding Ibanez RG's with maple fretboards

Hi all =)

I have been wanting to get my hands on an older Ibanez RG with a maple fretboard. I have seen one RG550 (i think) on the 'bay that had one, but my question is what older model RG's had the maple fretboard? I want to know so I can pick which one i like best and then concentrate on finding one =)

I would like it to be at least a Rg5XX, i am not sure if the RG7XX came with maple boards though.

Any help is appreciated, thanks in advance =)

Welcome!

Do yourself a favor and peruse the catalogs over on Rich's site (http://www.ibanezrules.com/catalogs/index.htm). It's entertaining and should pretty well answer your questions at the same time.

It sounds like the RG550s are what you're after. Maple boards aside, many members here recommend them as good workhorse guitar and as a viable (no pun intended) alternative to the Jem line. They can be had for a song too!

Re: Help finding Ibanez RG's with maple fretboards

The RG770DX models have maple fingerboards, the regular 770's have rosewood.

I wouldn't even mess with going through catalogs. Especially if you want one with the AANJ. (The only factory equiped, 5XX series and higher, AANJ Ibanez, maple board guitars being the RG550, RGR580((RG1550)) PGM300, PGM301) Necks are constantly swapped on RG's, so any particular bolt on model could have a maple fingerboard neck. Decide what neck joint you want, what model you want, then start looking. Do a search on here, because I think I remember posting in a thread that listed all the maple board, RG bodied guitars. Check the Jemsite classifieds too. --Jason

Re: Help finding Ibanez RG's with maple fretboards

thanks for the quick replies =)

After looking through the catalogs and reading the responses to my question, I think i am going after the following:

RG550 or RG1550 or RG770DX

Now the next questions? How much should I be willing to pay for one of these axes?

also, I saw an RG470 in the catalog with a maple board, what is the difference in quality between the 550 and the 470?

Thanks =)

Re: Help finding Ibanez RG's with maple fretboards

Depends on where the 470 is made. They were made in both Korea and Japan previously so it depends on your luck of the draw. If you're comparing the Jap 470 with the RG550 it's really just the trem that's a big quality difference. (the 470 has that Lo-TRS trem which is considered to be inferior to the Edge trems.)
