Well the RG620 has undergone a few changes since the model that was available in the late 90's. It's been relaunched and has a few new features.

Firstly it's now got the thicker Ultra neck profile, more strat like than the Super Wizard found on the previous incarnation. It's also got a three way switch instead of a five way, so the tones are less varied, but easier to access. Both these features are very reminiscent of the old JPM100 model

It comes with the original Edge trem, rather than the Lo-Pro edge, but this is only a very minor difference. But the pickups have been downgraded from the QM series to the V7 and V8 found on most of the mid range RGs, adequate in their own right, but you probably will want to replace them later.

The body is also bound on this newer version and I think that's a big plus, even though I'm not to keen on the colours. Even so it's a great guitar, and just a little different from the previous RG620 or the RG520.

Hope that's been a bit of help.

Thanks a load!

I am using a strat right now so I dont think the neck will be too much of a problem for me .

Do you recommand any other models from the RG series?

Anything above the RG470 series is pretty much recommended by most folks at JEMsite. Others don't mind the Lo-TRS trem found on the 470.

So basically the RG550, RG570, RG620 and some shops will also have the RG770FM and the RG3120.

As far as what's available, it depends on your location and what that country's importer brings in.

Basically I would recommend going for which ever you like the look of best in teh RG500 and RG600 series, and if you can afford the extra for the RG3120 then definately consider one of those.

The RG550 with a scratchplate is perhaps most like a strat from the range of RGs most folks here would recommend.

The 620QM has been relaunched? Where is there info on this? The only 6-series RG on the U.S. site is the 620X.

The 3120 is good because it's got a mahogany body, maple top, Prestige neck and DiMarzio pickups at a sweet price.

Yeah the RG620QM has been relaunched, but I'm not sure if it's just for the European market at the moment

HERE is the page with the new one on

Sorry...should have done this in the first place.

Just wondering why a suggestion to search the forum for an answer to a question that was a direct responce to a moderator's post regarding a guitar that fits right in to this topic area?

But as for your assesment of the 3120 not being a value guitar new, I would agree. However, to get one used for under $800, I would call that a good value.
