Help identify this Ibanez - What is it?!?!?!

Recently, I've come across an Ibanez six string, H-S-S, Floyd rose style, bound fingerboard, neck thru construction, RG-style body.

I'm trying to find out what the model is, and any other info on this guitar.

It reads Pro Line on the headstock and has Ibanez with the swoosh underneath.

The most outstanding feature is 6 small buttons above the tone and volume knobs

I'm guessing maybe individual string panning splitter thingys or something???

If anyone knows anything about this guitar (model, date of prod.) let me know

thanks.

welcome to the forum.

There was a ProLine model of Ibanez axes circas '85-86 just before the JEMs and revamped RGs with recessed trems were released. The serial number on your guitar should give a clue as to the production year.

You can see some catalogs scan here (when the page is operational):

These were the last of the Roadstar line.

There were actually five buttons above the regular controls... three white ones and two black ones on either end. This was a "pre-set" switching scheme, whereby the player could set any two pickup combinations (using the white buttons) and recall them (using the black buttons).

Link to Proline PL1770 & PL1880 models

Link to Proline PL2550 & PL2660 models.

I think both were '85/'86 models. *
Note the "almost Edge" trem. *:-)

What's "almost" Edge about it? Those were the first models to offer the Edge trem.

I say "almost Edge" because the PL's aren't routed underneath (can't pull up).

BTW- I missed the 'neck-thru' note in the first post. *The 1770's had bolt on necks (the 1880's have different switching); the 2550/2660's were neck-thru.
