Help with Indentification.

Hi there. I would like to know for certain what actual model this guitar is. It looks like an S3040 but I cannot be sure.
It was made in April 1997 and purchased new the same year.
What's the story with the small J Custom logo and Reg number on the headstock ? The case also has that same Reg number.

Any info would be very appreciated. Thanks.

Re: Help with Indentification.

Where is the reg number written on the case? Now that I'm thinking about it, I'm not sure if any of my cases are original. Does the case look different than normal?

How do you know it was made in April?

You're right, it is an s3040bs.

Re: Help with Indentification.

Thanks for the info. It's good to hear that it is an S3040BS. The REG number is just under the handle on the case.

I got the month wrong. From any documentation I have read, all the 1997 S3040BS's were made in march that year.

Re: Help with Indentification.

Well, I bought this guitar from my buddy and it is indeed a beautiful instrument.
One thing that puzzles me is the trem does not have the bar that usually locks down the springs to the trem block. Did someone forget to replace it or did the early LoPros's not have it ?

Any info is much appreciated. Thanks.

I think it's the thinness of the S body shape means it doesn't gig in the cavity, but I could be mistaken

That's one of the most beautiful guitars I have ever seen! The way the inlay goes up the fretboard is cool... very unique. Classy instrument, man...

Re: Help with Indentification.

Thanks for the photo of the case tag. It's the first time I've seen one, and I have seen multiple '97 JC cases that I thought were original. It's also lucky that the previous owner didn't lose the strap locks.

Congrats.... not many of these are still in mint condition.

Re: Help with Indentification.

Thanks just4Kinks. My buddy who bought this guitar new in 1997 has always looked after it as he does with his other guitars. It was bought in Dublin and the shop sticker is still on the back of the headstock. That shop no longer exists so it's nice to have that also.
I still don't understand what that number on the headstock is all about. It is the same number on all the 1997 sabers and other j-customs. The number is
1,497,480. Any ideas about this ?

I have seen pics of the s3040bs from Namm in 1997 and it's serial number is F9724195. mine is F9724189 so only a few digits apart.

By the way, Your S series collection is incredible. That black one is amazing.
