Help Jackson PC1 owners!

So I'm in a phase where I am moving away from Ibanez guitars and there are a few particular guitars that I want to try out. One of them is the Jackson PC1 model. I've heard it has quite a beefy neck and I'm cool with that but I also want to try out the sustainer and I'm a sucker for maple fretboards.

Over here in Italy I've found a couple of guys who are selling theirs and I was just about to jump at one of them (cuz it costed less than the others) when I noticed a tiny particular that made me decide to hold on (besides the fact that I'm short on cash and can't seem to sell my Jem...).

Here's a pic of the model I was going to get:

and here's a pic of one of the other models:

Besides the colour you might notice that the black one has an extra knob. You guys happen to know what's the difference between them? They are both PC1 models, meaning they are USA made and are the top of the line PC but somehow some models have 2 knobs, not 3. I thought their was supposed to be only one PC1... I'm not really concerned at what the extra knob does since I can just mail the guys and ask them about it but, are these the same guitar or not? If not what 's the price difference?

I realize it's a long shot to hope someone might know this in an Ibanez forum but the Jackson forum is a pain in the ass to get registered in and I searched for info on this and couldn't find anything...

Anyone here care to enligthen me?

Re: Help Jackson PC1 owners!

There are some PC1 guys on here if I remember rightly, so they will be able to help you hopefully. I remember a few people on these boards owning one at some stage or another.

But I have always wanted a PC1 myself too, I just love the figuring and detail on the necks. And the quality of finish and construction seems to be outstanding.

That one you was going to get looks awesome!

Re: Help Jackson PC1 owners!

The extra knob is a tone control. The original version had only volume and sustainer intensity controls.

I've tried to love the PC1 and just cant. The frets are just too wide and overall the guitar feels "stiff". YMMV Good luck...

Re: Help Jackson PC1 owners!

Ive got 2 PC1s and love them both. One is the newer Purple Daze and an older Chlorine Blue. I have never seen a PC1 with 3 knobs. I couldnt even imagine what he would be using it for unless hes toning both pickups individually. The necks on them are really nice sorta fender but not an extreme C. The sustainer absolutely sells this guitar. Id go with the solar over the Trans Black just because I dont like buying anything that has been messed with and unless that thing was a custom order then it wasnt stock.

Peace

Re: Help Jackson PC1 owners!

And just as I said that I found a newer PC1 on the bay that has 3 knobs. Sorry about the mis-info there. It seems that there were some PC1 new and old that have a third knob. 1 - Volume 2- tone 3 - intensity control. Neither of mine have the intensity control but evidentally they are out there. I dont believe its something that has just started on the newer models as the Trans Black picture has an older model headstock shape.

Peace
Rob

Re: Help Jackson PC1 owners!

Well, at least now I know they are both PC1's. I guess the one I'm interested in is just an older model.

Weird thing is I mailed the two guys that own 2-knobbed PC1's and one told me the knobs are VOLUME/TONE and the other one told me they are VOLUME/INTENSITY (of the sustainer). This is getting stranger by the minute...

Anyway, if anyone knows whether there is supposed to be some kind of price difference please let me know. I can't wait to try out one of these but I don't wanna overpay it either.

I'm taking this to the Jackson forum as soon as they authorize me anyway, but THX for the help guys.

Re: Help Jackson PC1 owners!

I asked at the JCF for you They say two knobs is volume/intensity, and three knobs are vol/intensity/tone. No tone knobs evidently on the originals on up to about 2002 or so.

Re: Help Jackson PC1 owners!

I've had (2) PC1s: the older one had (2) knobs, the newer one had (3). The newer ones just have an added master tone control. No biggie

Re: Help Jackson PC1 owners!

Yeah, I have a newer (Strathead) one. Older ones just didn't come with a tone control. That first one is nice looking. Hardware is worn but, that's probably because it sounds great and the owner couldn't put it down. Good luck with your PC1 purchase!

There's a pic of mine.. its in Euphoria (a purple burst of sorts) There was a change in the control layout at one point to include both a tone knob and an intensity control for the sustainor. Mine has the original headstock and all three knobs.. its an "Ontario Ca" neckplate model. The woods are absolutely gorgeous.. a few of the most recent ones that I've seen don't have quite the amount of flame and quilt figuring in the tops and fingerboards and the finishes seem a little bit more monotone vs. the dramatic "burst" of some of the earlier ones. ALL have been wonderful players with tone for days.
The neck is a little chunky but with the compound radius fingerboards, its a non-issue.

Re: Help Jackson PC1 owners!

i was just about to suggest that the the guitars with the 3 knobs are pc3's? (or pc2)

I would love to try a Jackson PC-1, very nice guitars but don't seem to have them in stores around here, unless they have discontinued..

Re: Help Jackson PC1 owners!

Thx a lot for posting in the Jackson forums Jim and thx everyone for the help. Now please please please stop putting pics of your beatiful PC1's up!!! They are simply too gorgeous!

I called the guy telling him "OK I'm cool can I send you the money?" and he goes "SOrry I already sold the guitar a few months back". What the hell was he answering my mails for then?!?!?! And why doesn't he remove the add?! I got all excited over nothing, I guess I'll have to wait... you guys are not selling yours right (or willing to trade for a DBK)?
