Help me ID this S Series

This guitar is local to me, and owner states it is an S540 from 1998. The serial number is F9800572 so it is indeed from 1998, but I'd like to know exactly which S540 model it is. I plan to buy it regardless, unless it's a dog when I get there, but want to know all I can about the guitar first. It has the Lo-Pro Edge trem and the Quantum pickups with a 5-way switch.

Re: Help me ID this S Series

Only semi-related, I wish the blue QS top on the RG520QSTB was as bright and transparent as that. I love mine, but it just looks like a flat, albeit very dark blue or black to most folks who look at it, me included. You only see the quilt if bright lights hit the guitar just right. Gorgeous, though. Way nicer than flame maple to me.

Awesome, thanks everyone! What's it worth, approximately? Can you explain the entire suffix QSTR also?

QS = Quilted Sapele (just the top, over mahogany body)

TR = Trans Red? Not sure on that one...

Nice guitar though!!

My '99 RG520QS is that same ultra-dark blue/green color... Beautiful if you get it in the right light at the right angle, but yes, it looks pretty muck black to the untrained eye. Like this one: https://reverb.com/item/336128-ibane...blue-with-case

Re: Help me ID this S Series

Thanks for the detailed answers. About what is it worth? Seller is asking $350 and that seems fair, or is it?

$350 seems fair... Thats about what I bought my RG520QS for, has that same awesome Super Wizard neck w/Bubinga stripe in the back. Came with a hard case too. When you pick it up and play it you'll know if $350 is a good price or not. Seems like a good price to me though, I've seen them go for more.

Good luck!!

Re: Help me ID this S Series

$350 is a no-brainer for MIJ in that shape unless it needs a total refret or neck warped beyond repair.
