help - should I trade in?

Hey to everybody,
at my local guitar shop they have a Jackson RR24 used for 700 Euro.
Should I trade in my Esp Ltd EC-1000 for it? They'd give me 400 Euro, so I would have to pay 300 Euros for the Jackson.. what's Your idea about this? Is it worth it?
Also, I have an Ibanez Prestige 2610e .. would it be a good idea to trade it for one of the newer Premium guitars? (for instance those RG's in neon, 25th anniversary premium edition).

Thanx a lot for any help on this!
Dino

Re: help - should I trade in?

Totally not worth it. The EC-1000 is an excellent guitar and worth far more than what they are giving you for it. Plus it is probably better than the RR24 in terms of quality of the woods, hardware, etc. Don't trade in or try to get way more out of your EC-1000

Re: help - should I trade in?

I guess from doing a lot of dealings with people on here as well as a couple of other message boards I belong to, I would say you will get far more for your guitars if you a willing to wait a little bit longer for the sale rather than just trading in your guitars. I have yet to see someone get fair market for a trade in.....

As for the 2610, I would personally take a premium like a 920 qm over a 2610 which have a very limited sound range. In terms of quality of the woods, etc, I would say they are equal.

Re: help - should I trade in?

I would keep the RG2610. IMO it's a much better instrument. Yeah, it's kind of limited with the one pickup so if you want an H-S-H guitar that bad it might be worth it. If it were me I'd keep the 2610.

Strange, the Premium I got, and have been playing since last March--is quite nice. In fact, I like it better than the 2610 I had...

My opinion.

RR24 > EC1000
RG2610 > Premium

Only problem is that you'll have no neck pickups

Ha ha that's right!! anyways, thanx really to everybody for their thoughts. I guess I will
keep both my guitars and wait for a trade that's really worth it. But youknow, when
GAS hits you you're not thinking enough if the trade is REALLY good or not ;-)

Re: help - should I trade in?

It all comes down to how bad you want a guitar.
While I like my Premium better than the 2610, others may not. Concerning value--the 2610, even in good condition doesn't fetch what it used to. If you can keep it and save for a Premium--do that.

Re: help - should I trade in?

No Ibanez holds its value, IMO, unless you're talking about a few specific collector's items or old-school Jems; and even then it's tough. Even a brand new model is like a car. Driving it off the lot takes 10-20% off what you paid for it.
The only model of late that I've seen rise in price used is the old fixed bridge Prestige RGA's, and that's because a certain niche of people have figured out what awesome guitars they are.

Re: help - should I trade in?

I decided :-) On saturday I'll trade in my EC-1000 for a used American Std. Stratocaster with maple fretboard.. I'll have to pay 200 Euros :-)
I'll keep the Ibanez 2610 and won't get the Jackson, as both would have only one pickup - fine deal in Your opinion?

here we go.. on Saturday I went to the guitar shop, and they had a special price on a brandnew RG1550. So I just left aside the Stratocaster and got that one.. awsome sound and feeling!!! I kept the 2610, so I have two Prestige Guitars right now that I just love. Honestly, the EC1000 might also be a great guitar, but I really never felt comfortable with it!
