Locking tuners have a locking mechanism on the back of the tuner itself.
It locks it at the headstock, so once youve tuned to what ya want, just lock them up! I have only used them once on an ESP I had, but I liked them. It is still no competition for a good ole locking nut and bridge.
The locking machineheads are better for fixed bridge guitars (no floyd) that you need a little bit more stability from. If you had a Les Paul for example that just wasnt holding its tuning.
They are defenitely worth a crack though. If not you can easily sell them on and buy some nice Grovers or Gotoh ones. Locking tuners hold their value I have found so youll be alright.
