Re: Help with two Ibanez- ID & quality?

Thanks Mike! Glad for the reassurance on the crack so I don't have to be walking on eggshells with this guitar.

The link above is to another guitar's page- my pics are in this thread:

Thanks again. Any other opinions?

On the topic of the crack, yes it is very thin- running my thumbnail across the back of the neck, I can just barely feel it. Same is true of the little "n" shaped crack to the left of the longer crack. I don't think I could fit even the smallest needle into it at all (not that I'm trying).

Re: Help with two Ibanez- ID & quality?

I just had a good look at the pics too. I might be tempted to put a little super thin (wicking) CA (superglue) on the cracks for a little insurance.......no need for clamping or other tools. The long crack looks more like an impact split than an overtightened nut......because there's no way of telling how deep the split might be, the CA could make a big difference in the necks longevity. As a bonus, it will also seal out any airborne moisture that could cause swelling inside the wood. The "n" shaped crack has me guessing as to how it got there, but regardless, the CA will bind it together and seal it up.

#7001 does a good job at a decent price:

Awesome... adding up my StewMac cart now.

Thanks for the tip, RGT. I would feel better just doing something to address it, and the moisture thing is a good point. I can't bear to think of ever having to find a replacement for this wonderful neck.

I'll check some other resources as well, but how should I do this? Just use the little applicator to put the tiniest bit in the crack? If there is excess, I guess I dry it immediately? And if there's some that dries, do I use super-fine sandpaper and sand it off? Obviously being careful not to affect the neck....

Input appreciated.

yup, that would be the process. if you have any try to drip around the outside of the neck wipe it up immediately, otherwise flood the crack as much as possible. It will dry FAST, you can sand any extra smooth with 320-400 grit and be back in business. Be sure to take plenty of pics along the way, I'm sure other members would greatly appreciate it.
