Re: HELP! What brand paint does Ibanez use for Jewel Blue?
My 1988 540 Radius creates Jewel Blue by spraying silver, and then a kandy blue over the top. It's a 2-step process. That 570 looks like a 1-step process, and Ibanez switched to that at some point and I think the color suffered quite honestly, but they can shoot it much easier and it's more consistent. The 2-step can have different build-ups of blue in certain areas. In the late 80's they did a lot of colors as 2-steps. Jewel Red & Magenta were made by combining a basecoat and a top coat, and the neon colors had white undercoats that I think helped create the color too.
