Hi all, new here with a question.

Hello everyone, It has been 11 years since I owned a rg470 and since then have been using a fender fat strat. I am going to be buying a new rg. I have been looking at the rg450 with a maple neck. I did notice that the v7,v8 pickups are not in them any more like the one I use to own had. I had a rg470 in the new penny finish and have regretted selling it for may of years. So i am sort of out of the loop to whats all changed. So is the rg450 virtually the same as the rg470 I previously owned trem wise and playability? Pickups are no big deal to me as I can just put new dimarzios in and the install would be for free from a buddy of mine for a six pack of Heineken.Want to get back to my old metal days Anthrax, testament, vai and even some prong

Re: Hi all, new here with a question.

All this is assuming your 470 was MIK and not MIJ.

I think you'll find the 450 to be better in some ways.......... especially the trem. The EZ2 is miles ahead of the TRS you had previously. If you had the TRS-II......it's night and day.

Thw WIZIII on the 450 is slightly better than the WizII on your old 470. It's 3-piece construction is a little more stable and dependable than the 1 piece you had.

You can probably count on some minor fret work with the new 450 as well as extensive setup work. They don't come out of the box with a very useable setup.

All-in-all......... the 450 is an excellent buy.

The OP mentioned V series pickups so they would have had an MIJ RG 470.

Although in saying that the new Edge Zero II trem would be at least as good as the Japanese LO-TRS, maybe better seeing as it's new. As you've said though the nwe 450s are an excellent buy. But play them first, to ensure you get yourself a good one.

Re: Hi all, new here with a question.

Thanks for the input, I guess it was made in japan dindnt know there was a korean made 470 either but I havent really kept up either, so if you guys say the 450 is up to the same quality of a guitar as my old rg470 after a pickup change I will buy one . when I bought my 470 years ago it was only around maybe five hundred bucks new, and wasnt considered the top of the line rg but was a good solid one and thats what im looking for now. I just dont want to be buying Ibanez's squier series if you catch my drift.

Your right, I thought all the NP's were pre-98 MIK's. I was completely backward. All the NP's were 98-99 MIJ's......... thanks for the reminder my friend .

Re: Hi all, new here with a question.

So I have decided between these two, the s420 or the rg450, both will need some new pickups and im wanting to go new. My ultimate decison will be on which of the trems are the better of the two??

Re: Hi all, new here with a question.

That's an extremely subjective question. I for one, hate the zr trems a lot, but I know some people swear by them... id say go play on em, see what you like better if that's possible.

Re: Hi all, new here with a question.

Both of them are decent. Try both and decide which one you like best.
