How does humidity/dry air affect the neck?

How does humidity/dry air affect the neck? My RG1570 seems awfully rattly these days despite only being played say five times since I got it. It's the middle of winter here and the air in the house is quite dry. Though the guitar sits 10 feet from an air vent in the basement. Would these conditions cause the neck to bow slightly (or bend the opposite way)?

Yes, lack of moisture or too much moisture can play havoc on a guitar. My Washburn D10S died a horrible death due to the desert air sucking all the moisture out of the neck and causing it to warp. My advice: keep the guitar in its case and invest in a case humidifier.

Like jem7vwh says, things like that can make guitars go nuts (and things like that make it really easy to tell de difference between a good and a bad guitar, the quality of the wood, even if all of them can go nuts).
The worst thing are not really extremes in any direction, the worst thing are rapid changes between them.

It is the biggest problem with touring, when these things change all the time, really tuff on the guitar.
