Ibanez SZ520 Bridge

Recently i found out that my SZ520QM bridge and pickup mounts are plastic from a source on the internet. I mean honestly i shouldnt be surprised its not like its a overly expensive guitar. My question is, does it really make a difference whether its a plastic or metal one? if so is it worth getting a better quality one fitted and what would be recomended ones for this spectific guitar? Someone on harmony central suggested a tone pros in thier review and to change the tuners to "A decent set of gotoh or grovers" if i got what he was talking about correct.
Or if its not worth upgrading at all, whats a base level RG that has a bridge made out of decent materials.

Hopefully this is a valid post/thread.

Re: How much for non plastic bridge

Gotoh and Grover's are different types of machine heads (tuning pegs.)

I honestly can't see why it would change the tone, but at the same time there are so many factors when it comes to sound (even things like your own fingers!)

Yeah i dunno, i guess when i hear plastic with things like this i automatically get rubbed up the wrong way, i'm not sure why. I think its because i think (Plastic automatically means uber fragile)

Yeah don't worry about it, I've certainly never heard of it being a problem.

I'd say sell it and just get an RG500 and upwards.

Re: How much for non plastic bridge

I just got my sz and yes the bridge is plastic as are the rings. And it appears as though a replacement bridge will not easily retrofit. I am doing more research on that as we speak. As for the tuners thay are as good as any brand. Ibanez usually uses gotoh tuners anyway and these appear to be solid. Frankly i wouldn't even bother changing the tuners. Remember that 99% of the people an harmony central are not the brightest stars in the night sky. As for the sz as a guitar i think it is exceptional for the price. It has plenty of goodness locked away in it and it is really hard to compare it to an RG since they are different guitars built for different sounds. The sz to me is more of a deep and warm guitar whereas the rg is a speed demon built to dazzle and amaze and be easy to play but not always the most toneful instrument. Hence why i bought an sz to compliment my collection of rg's. So i would not reccomend selling it to buy an rg if you like the guitar. Maybe buy rg to go along with it. I mean really can you have TOO MANY guitars? Hope this helps and i will return hopefully with more bridge replacement answers soon. Joshua
