How much is this RG550 worth?
New to this site as I just got gifted a black 1992 Ibanez RG550 (number 5667 off the line), and was trying to find out what it was all about, so I naturally came across these boards. Tons of helpful posts here as this is my first Ibanez guitar, but I'm hoping the community can help assess how much this guitar is actually worth.
The body has some minor blemishes on it - can't really see it in the pics but there is a scratch and a small chip at the bottom of the body. Other than that it seems to be in good shape - it was sitting unused for the last 6 years in a closet.
The pics were taken before I wiped it down, dusted it, and restrung it last night with Super Slinky 9 gauge strings. Plays AMAZING compared to the Squire I've been using for the last year (gimme a break, I'm cashless).
So can anyone estimate a rough value? Not planning on selling it because it sounds so good but would be nice to know the scale of this generous gift.
Also, any general thoughts on this model? Seems to be well-respected, but not sure if it's considered ancient as a '92 model.
One last question: is there a way to easily move to different tunings with this? Seems like when I try to go from something simple like standard to drop D all the other strings get out of tune (I assume this is due to the resistance from the Edge Lo Pro tremolo). On my Squire the tremolo was fixed so moving to different tunings wasn't an issue... any tips? This page seems to touch on this issue but not sure if it's a permanent fix:
