How often do you get your guitar set up

I usually would get my RG-550 setup at least once a year when the weather changed, but since getting married a couple of years ago I haven't been doing it as much, and it seems to have been a struggle ever since. So how often do you guys get your guitars set up?

only when I have to. I know what you mean about the weather change. I will check the intonation when I change strings or adjust the action as needed. Some of my guitars just always play great, some need a little help every once in a while.

Twice a year usually. We have wicked summer humidity that lasts until October and comes back about April. Usually it's just a trem spring adjustment and maybe a slight neck adjust - then maybe a bit of an intonation check. Easier on the fixed bridge guitars of course which is one reason I've gravitated towards them the last few years.

Re: How often do you get your guitar set up

I used to hate trying to do any setup except truss rod on my RG560 w/ edge trem. Once I started taking 60 seconds to block the trem with two small wood blocks on either side, it's no problem at all. I can detune one string to get it floppy enough to adjust intonation, bring back up to pitch, no problem. I can change tuning and remove the front block, then adjust the springs until the rear block just barely slides out. Good to go. Once I learned that trick, I'm no longer afraid of my Floyds.

Re: How often do you get your guitar set up

For me it all depends on the guitar. I have a '95 Iceman that hasn't had a setup since the day I bought it and the action is and always has been really low. Others like my hammer explorer need a quick adjustment every time the weather changes. Basically I do a setup whenever needed, some need one more often than others. And I do all the work myself.

I do my own setups. I'm always fine tuning them as the days go by. I have to thank Rich for his great "tech" page which taught me ton.

Same to me.
For beginners, however, it would be great if Rich could record some videos showing the processes.
