How rare?

Great site!

Curious ...

I have owned the attached guitar - see pic - since buying it new in the fall of 1989. It is a 1989 Ibanez 570 with a maple fingerboard with matching headstock in Jewel Blue. It is completely stock. I have never seen another one like it. How rare is this guitar? I have no interest in selling, but was curious.

Re: How rare?

its not ultra rare, but a lot of people looking for late 80s/early 90s rg550/570..mostly because of the quality craftmanship during those times by the folks in Japan..and it has the original Edge trem..i have a 87 rg550 and its just a beauty

RG570s are not rare at all.
The Maple fretboard makes it Medium Rare; the way I like my Steak!

Re: How rare?

570s with maple boards AND matching headstocks are fairly rare. What does it say on the neck heel when you have the neck off (if you've had the neck off, that is)?

Re: How rare?

Haven't removed the neck. Honestly, the guitar is so well setup that I haven't changed my strings in over 15 years. Seriously. It plays like a dream and stays in tune. And I heavily subscribe to the Brad Gillis whammy abuse school of 80's playing. I own 12 other electrics, but this is the only one that I will never part with. And to your point, the combo matching headstock and fingerboard is what makes this unique, IMHO.

Or maybe the guitar came with secret little tech elfs, that change the strings when you're asleep.

Re: How rare?

I just pulled out my 1987 rg560 after a sad 7 tears alone in its case. It was basically in tune, just slight adjustment on 2 strings. Buy the way It's for sale if anyone interested.

Yeah they are. My guitar teacher has a white RG550 with a matching headstock and he told me that back then, even over here in Japan, most were black headstocks and that's the reason he bought his 550. Still has it too I wish he'd show it to me
