How thick is the maple?

I own two usrg30s and the tops on both seem to be very thin and really just a venear. Much thinner than the top on my rg-1880 which is only a 4mm top.

7mm isn't that more like a exotic wood.

Now I'm confused again. I can get my hands on one that I'd have to re-finish, but if it's just a veneer I'd be afraid of sanding through it. Who know's absolutely for sure?
Thanx
Ron

I've sanded down ibanezs before with out going through the veneer(s540fm). and the top on my usrg30s is rather thick for a veneer, but to thin still for my call it anything else. as long as you hand sand it you should be fine.

The UCEW tops are 1/2" thick. The tops on the USRGs are a 7mm veneer top. The reason they look thinner is because of the rounded edges od the body. It plays tricks on the eyes. Best way to tell is to look at it from the neck joint pocket or the trem cavity. No round off there.
