How to trust an Ibanez guitar, fake or not

Hi,

I am looking to buy my first Ibanez.

I am not to sure how I can tell if it is original or not.

Looking around at pics I can see the model will be stamped on the back of the headstock.

What about the body? Is there anything marked there.

Thanks

You can post pics of potential guitars (if possible) that you are going to buy and the guys on here will keep you right.

Re: How to trust an Ibanez guitar, fake or not

I can't add links here yet as I haven't done ten post (i tried to add a link)

If you go to dubizzle.com
musical instruments
guitars
electric
(it should be the top featured add, if not, it was posted on the 5th july and it's title is IBANEZ, original PICKUPS 2(v1) (s1) 2(v2), MADE IN JAPAN... excellent!)

He says he cannot tell the model as he changed the neck and it was originally painted red but was changed to white.

All sounds dodgy i know but it's dubai and things sound bad when there not.

1500 dhs is about 265 pounds. If the guitar is clean, straight neck etc, plays ok ( i am a learner though) then i would like to buy it but want to know if it's worth it.

thanks for any help

cheers

Re: How to trust an Ibanez guitar, fake or not

Pics aren't great but from what I can make out it does have an Original Edge trem by the looks of things + that pickup combo + square heel joint would point to a 1987-1991 RG550. The neck would also have to be pre 1994 to fit that neck joint and also possibly from an RG550. That's the best I can do from those pics but can't be 100% because I can't make out much detail on the guitar.

The site is down for maintenance--I'll take a peek later, but it sounds legit.

The thing that looks weird is the binding around the headstock in black.... ?? But the rest of it looks good..

He said on the phone he thought it was a RG550 but couldn't be sure because the neck was changed so sounds ok.

He said it used to be red but was painted which does sound a bit dodgy.

He asking 263 pounds, $408. Does that sounds ok?

Thanks for all the replies

The black line bordering the headstock, my 550 doesnt have this.. The color goes right to the edge..

Stay away from it!
Refinish plus non-original neck does not come close to what he's asking.

Re: How to trust an Ibanez guitar, fake or not

The black binding on the headstock looks like what you'd find on cheap Korean RG350DX models a decade or so ago. I'd pass on this guitar.
