HR Giger RG guitar

Hi, first time poster - long timer lurker.

I have not seen any posts referancing this new guitar so I figured I would post a link.

http://www.ibanez.com/news/hr_giger_series.asp

American Musical supply is already taking orders, but I will most definately buy one from my local dealer (usually cheaper prices).

One thing tho is that if you look at the picture of the RG guitar and the picture of the display from the NAMM show the guitars are slightly different. One shows it as a prestige and the other as a RG. I hope the RG version is the one that ends up in stores.

Gluck =)

Re: HR Giger RG guitar

The two guitars in the NAMM photos are an Iceman and an RG. The RG definitely has the Prestige logo on the headstock and V-series pickups (the same photo also appears on the American Musical site).

However, the specs and pricing on American Musical say that it will have Infinity humbuckers, leading me to believe it's based on the Korean-built RGT42.

Re: HR Giger RG guitar

Judging by the price on AMS im leaning towards its a RGT with a custom paint job.

Re: HR Giger RG guitar

the specs it seems aren't too accurate from that link you have. the picture shows V's Pups yet the specs show infinities. and it says it has sharktooth inlay. i see no inlays. and why would thye put an edge pro II on a prestige. i could be very wrong but when putting the HRgiger side to side with a rgt42, the bridges look different to me. if you go to the zoomed photo, it looks like the giger has that ring piece around the hole where the trem bar goes while the edge pro II has just the hole. could be an illusion, i really don't know. ibanez needs to fix that page.

Ill admit they are cool but i would rather see a three dimensional carved hr giger theemed guitar than just the print on the face of it. Still I love HR. Gigers art

Re: HR Giger RG guitar

Infinity humbuckers & EP2 bridge sound Korean to me (doesn't necessarily mean no good!!!)

I like the graphic though

Re: HR Giger RG guitar

That whole HR Giger guitar is very misleading. The picture says one thing but then the specs say another. Right now it's looking like a Korean-made RGT42 with a custom paint job selling for a Prestige price as mentioned earlier. For that kind of money, I'd need something a bit higher end and MIJ.

Re: HR Giger RG guitar

Yes, it is a neck-thru.
As for any other details it seems like no one is really sure yet.

It does definitely look like an RGT42 in the pictures but it also states that the pictures are only a mock-up and that the final guitars detail may differ from those shown(?!).

I've got a horrible feeling that it's gonna' be an RGT42 Korean made guitar that's shipped to Japan for finishing (putting on a headstock SN Decal).
This is pure specualtion but i can't see that it's gonna' be based on a Japanese RGT3120 body/neck for that price.

Re: HR Giger RG guitar

They're Korean, period. The pictures are of the prototypes shown at NAMM, which did not reflect the finished models.

There's a guy in California named "Grey" who does very Giger-esque 'biomechanical' carved guitars.

Re: HR Giger RG guitar

If they are that would make them the first Korean prestige RG wouldn't it ?

Let's hope it's not the start of a trend.
That said, if they're selling Korean Prestige S-series guitars i suppose Korean Prestige RG's are bound to come sooner or later.

I dread to think what Ibanez would charge for a guitar with that much manual labour involved.

The carving on those guitars is fantastic though.
