I may have screwed up

Hi, new here, been coming here for years but never registered until now. I really need help identifying a guitar I drunkenly won on ebay and thought the experts here would know if anybody would. Since I'm new I can't post pics or links so please search ebay for "Customized Ibanez RG Series Guitar w/ hard case" under the sold listings. ebay item number 231415056808. Its flat black, chrome pickguard, reverse headstock with a punisher truss rod cover and green knobs, won it last night, can miss it.

I asked the seller the model and specifics but he didn't know, it was his deceased brothers guitar. Anyway doing some research a RGR350EX (search ibanez wiki) what I thought I was bidding on after drinking a few the other night. everything seemed to match up and made complete sense in the state I was in so if I won then F it. Then I noticed after I had won that there is nothing on the back of the headstock as far as serial number or model number and one of those damn wrench holders on the back of the headstock. The few pics I found of the back of a RGR350 also shows that they did not have control cavity routing. Anyway, what other RG's came in flat black with a reverse headstock? Or just flat black, I'm thinking this may be a replacement neck.

Thanks in advance.

Yup.... definitely a 5ex1.

With the case and pups included, you may have gotten a fair price. 5ex1's usually sell around $300 in good condition.

Re: I may have screwed up

I had an RG5EX1 and it had the model#/sn# and "Made in Indonesia" printed in silver on the back of the headstock and no allen wrench holder. It also had the INF3-4-INFS pickups. So it looks similar, but I don't think thats what it is. I wanted to add a pickguard to mine too... but it was way too much work.

Yeah... thats a heck of a nice case too. Maybe too nice for an RG5EX1... but they are not bad guitars really! I think you did alright.

The neck looks original...... I think the first owner sanded off the identifying info.

Entirely possible... it does look like a Wizard 2 neck. Maybe there will be some nice pickups in it?? I can't tell what is on the middle one in the close-up pic and the humbuckers have no markings.

Re: I may have screwed up

Definitely an aftermarket pickguard. If it's originally front routed, a pickguard came on it. If it's rear routed, then it's been added. I know. I have two like that myself lol. I had to cut the control cavity section out of the top of the guitar in order to direct mount the electronics, unless they replaced the pots and switch for longer ones. And it butts right up against the trem, which never happens It's a nice looking guitar though. Hope you enjoy her!
