i need some ideas customising an rg550wh

Hi guys,

i just won an ebay auction for an white `95 RG550 , hopefully with an AANJ

it kinda looks like this

id like to do a mock jem, or something similar,

do you think the guitar would look good with this color scheme?

if so where could i get coloured pickup covers and tone nobs?

OR

should i go a white pick guard on a white body with a maple neck? how do you think that would look?

i have a dimarzio paf pro and a dimarzio fred at home to put in it, or i might just go paf pro/paf pro. what do you think?

if i were you,

i would rather to turn its paint to yellow as you might or pink as jem777's...and get these pick ups to air norton for neck and tone zone for bridge...and buy a new double-edge piezo bridge for new possibilities...

why not

Pickups dont really matter too much, it all depends on your personal tone preferance. But the paf/paf combo sounds fine, and so does the other you mentioned.

As for the guitar itself, I think it would be a shame to cover over the white on the RG550. They arent too common, and I think it would be a shame. The DY looks nice, but you would probably be better off getting an RG550 in DY. Then you dont have to go to the bother/hassle of getting it painted.

I personally would leave the white RG550 well alone. Just replace the pickups with all white ones. Leave the black scratchplate on, and it will look the bomb.

Let us know what you do!

A bad horsie project would look cool too, and will probably be cheaper.

For the price of the yellow paint you could buy a yellow guitar, so don't paint it. You can get bobbin toppers and knobs from Brian at Universaljems.com for cheap.

I agree with you, the first three look good. But if I had to pick one I would pick the second one. The one with the black plate, and white H-S-H combo. Everything on it brings it out slightly, and it will look even better in the flesh when you actually come to do it!

Looks like it's not a 95 to me, unless you know different?

The photos suggest an original neck joint, and white wasn't, to the best of my knowledge, offered in 95.

Either way I'd just change the pickups and have done, I might even go for a white pearl scratchplate and black pickups to match the hardware and headstock.

Have fun
