I need to upgrade my RG2750E VGD Suggestions?

I'm doing some upgrades to my RG2570e vgd. I'm replacing the Egde Pro to a cosmo OE with newer matching hardware, adding a chrome or smoke mirror pickguard to cover the bald spot under the pickups (which one would look better with cosmo?), and replacing the stock pickups in my RG2570. I have a few questions I hope you guys can help me with...

Anyone ever buy pickguards from Perle Guitars on Ebay? Curious if they are any good since they are half the price as most others listed there...

I know Dimarzio's are the go to pickups for RG's, but have any of you tried other makes with basswood RG's that you've been impressed with? I play mostly 80's type metal with loads of distortion and lots of pinch harmonics; I'm looking for something a little bit different than my RG570 with Evo's...

Here's the before pic

Man, a good set of Duncan's will take you far. I like that PATB-2 personally. Very fat and lots of clarity. But I'm a death metal player so chances are, we like different things.

I like playing heavier stuff too and I'm thinking about making this my down-tuned axe. I'll go try to dig up some PATB-2 vids now man thanks!

Wouldn't an OE require some routing? I guess you know that.

For a pickguard, I'd have a hard time and would likely go white-ish....

No routing on mine at least, I've already dropped in there to test the fit...

I printed out the pickguard template that Perle Guitars provides (white paper) and white looked good, but a little too plain for me. I ended up ordering a chrome mirror HXH pickguard today, I decided to ditch the SC on this guitar, I rarely ever use it and it gets in the way at times...

Still searching for pickups

Maybe a nice set of Bareknuckles would cream your Twinkie.

Re: I need to upgrade my RG2750E VGD Suggestions?

I have a white Evo bridge and a white FRED for the neck, both with black poles on the way... but I may use them for my 540P hardtail project, not really sure yet.

I bought a pair of studio monitors to use as a guitar amp with my RP and the IBZ's sound pretty good tuned down a whole step through those. I may just leave them in...

Re: I need to upgrade my RG2750E VGD Suggestions?

Picguard looks great on there! Totally changes the look of the guitar! Well done!

As far as pickups? I'm a similar style but a different format....I tend to use a lower output pickup and use more gain at the amp....instead of the other way around...works for me.

My current Axes have the following:
Jem FP2 - Evo 2 bridge, Evo neck
Jem 70V - Gravity storm neck and bridge
J-Custom RRG4 - Transition neck and bridge
J-Custom purple - Custom 5 bridge and neck
Universe Green dot - Blaze bridge, neck, middle.

I have tried a pile of different pickups over the years. If you are doing 80's metal, etc....have you consider a Dimarzio Super Distortion or Super 3 for more mid emphasis? Would sound great in there. If you like the Petrucci stuff, a Liquifire and Crunch Lab combo are great for high gain! That chrome bar on the Crunch lab would go beautifully with that pick guard you have on there.

What would also look neat on that guitar is if you matched the truss rod cover to the pick guard!

Re: I need to upgrade my RG2750E VGD Suggestions?

Yeah I've really thought about the Evo 2 and the Super 3 for the bridge, especially the Super 3 and I may still go that route for this one... With those monitors though all my guitars sound so much better it's like I instantly just got new pickups for them all

I found a really great deal on the Fred and the Evo and I figured it would be a different combo for the 540 hardtail at least. I love the Evo bridge in alder more so than in basswood and it should really scream in a hardtail.

I've never tried a Fred before so I figured what the hell the price was right and the output should match the Evo pretty well...
