They would both be excellent choices.

Your best choices in my opinion are as follows.

A second hand RG550 / RG570

These guitars preceded the 1570/1550 and Actually have better trem systems, as a result of Ibanex downgrading to unlocking trem studs. The necks don't have the prestige finish, but to be honest no one really gives a toss anyway.

If you want something new however the 1570/2570 or the souped up 2570/2550 are good choices, You'd be best of going through rick (See banner at the top of the page) as he would Set them up top notch and change the non locking studs to locking studs thus saving you hours of tunning frustration and time in the long time.

The pickups on these guitars arn't great compared to other brands, but to be honest they suit the guitars well, and the QC coming out of Fujijen these days is the best ever.

If you want something slightly different the Korean made RGt42 is worth a look to. It features A neck through body design and is a cheap alternative to the prestige RGT3020 type guitars. allthough they don't come close to them in terms of tone and construction quality they do offer a good guitar at a relatively cheap price.

ESP/LTD would screw you over from here to saturday for something very similar...

Hope that helps,
Spike.

If you want a great guitar with minimal fuss, go for an RG 500-series (550, 520, 570, etc.) or higher (770, 3120, etc.). Don't go lower than RG520. The 450, etc. just aren't as nice. If you're going for a new instrument, go for anything with a four digit model number (i.e. RG1550, 1570, 2550, 2570, 2020, etc.).

And while the J-Customs and uber-high-end RGs are amazing, and equal in quality (some say even better) compared to the JEM series, they're also equal (or more expensive) in price. Any Ibanez RG with a decent bridge is going to be a great guitar. Period.

Buy a used RG550, RG570, RG750, RG750. The 500 series are about 250-350 dollars which leaves you right at 500 dollars of customization options. I forget who said, "the most expensive isn't always the best" but they were right in this case!

Those ZR trems arn't bad, but I'm too used to the EDGE system to change to them.

i'd recommend going through Rich at Ibanez Rules(see banners on top), i bought a rg1570 through him, cost less than $900, and is the most fantastic axe i've ever played, definitly get the fret level and polish too.
