Ibanez #2 is inbound

I've had the hankering for a trem equipped guitar lately so I've been looking at a lot of different Ibanezes. I've looked at the RG2550, RG2570, Jem 77VWH and the Jem 77BRMR. I've already got a PGM301 so that ruled out the 77VWH (I don't want my only 2 guitars to be white). I liked everything about the RG2570 except for the color (silver didn't grab me). The 77BRMR is a gorgeous guitar but I just can't justify spending that much on a guitar that I only really need for its whammy bar. That brought me to the RG2550. Its black finish is a great contrast to the PGM's white (it had the whole Yin Yang thing going on) and I didn't mind the pickguard.

But there was one other guitar I had my eye on. I've always preferred to by a new guitar vs. a used but this one was really sweet and the price was nice too. I also didn't have to worry about what I would be receiving because I bought it from Ibanez Rules! (thank you again Rich).

The guitar I ended up buying was a sample RG2720 with a Quilted Maple top with the Vintage Violin finish. The quilted maple top never went into production and the final production version with flame maple top was only released in Japan.

I'm going to replace the pickups (just starting to research that) and I'll either go with zebra (cream and black) or red and yellow bobbins.

So without further adieu, here are a few pics:

I love quilted tops, much nicer than flames IMO

Enjoy

Fantastic looking guitar!!! She is gorgeous! If it had gold hardware, off side dots and ebony board it would be my dream RG. Congrats!

Re: Ibanez #2 is inbound

Thank you shredfreak.

Y'know, I had thought about getting gold hardware for it but that would be a decent chunk of change (around $300 including the bridge and tuners) but the Powdered Cosmo hardware has grown on me.

I've definitely decided that the replacement pickups I get for it I will get zebra (black and cream) bobbins. That will look classy.

I'm going to have to think about how I'm going to wire it up now. It's got a 5 way with the standard Ibanez dual humbucker 5 way switch wiring but I may replace the 5 way with a 3 way, make the the tone control a volume control and put in 2 push/pull pots for series/parallel and humbucking/coil splitting in. I'm only recording at home so I don't have to worry about making the pickup switching slightly complicated. But that's another topic and I have lots of research to do on which pickups I want and how to wire them.

Thank you but don't worry, I ordered a UV1000 case with it so it will be shipped in a hardshell case.

Awesome -- you don't want a beautiful guitar like that in a gig bag.

That's gorgeous, and black & cream zebras will provide the perfect finishing touch.

Eh, I carried lots of guitars, more expensive than this one, in gig bags and I never had a problem but I also always had a really nice $100 super padded gig bag. I always want a hard case for every guitar but gig bags have their place (in my book) and are super convenient.

The top on the baby is AMAZING! Love the headstock too. I wish Ibanez would do that for more of their models.
