Ibanez 7-strings in 2001 - updated info on Jemsite --> Guita

I wanted to post here because judging by some forum posts, it is clear many don't often read the stuff on Jemsite

The Ibanez 7-string Spec sheet has been updated to include all the 2001 models. Read about the Guitar Center exclusive S7420FMTT (new wavy inlays). The S7420 from last year is discontinued and not availble anywhere else. Still missing the Edge7 though

Also the country of origin is now listed. Here is a deciphered model number codes
*72 - Made in China
*73 - Made in Korea
*74 - Made in Japan
*76 - Made in Japan

So as you can see the new RG7631 is Korean made, which was surmised, judging by the $250 price drop from the discontinued Japanese made RG7641.

Bottom line is the sales of other brand 7s (some dirt cheap and total junk) have cut into the Ibanez lineup, again as expected. Ibanez has diversified a bit and I hope the XLs are stocked locally to test drive... glen

If anyone gets confused...I think he meant the 7321 is Korean made as oppose to the now discontinued 7421.

Yep. Even with the new inlays..the S7420 still BLOWS! Stick a lo-pro and it would be great yadda yadda yadda we've all heard it before...

Just a bit of confusion on the 1077XL specs...

Your specs say the knobs are Black Chrome (GN has powder chrome)... spec sheet copied from the 7620? th catalog scans Rich has show it as being available in RB only... then later, under Hardware, you list it as Powder Chrome. Which is it? It sure looks like Cosmo Black in the photos Chris posted of his.

Also, you've got the pickup order mixed up, with a DiMarzio Custom-7 Single at the bridge.

Just call me Mr. Nit-picky!

Just out of curiosity, what does the TT colour code stand for? Tarnished Turd?

The 1077XL looks quite nice!!! it has the H-S-H for a change since only UV's have had that set up. The Hardware looks like powder coated cosmo like on the DNA, but I don't know for sure yet.

Like to play the XL scale on the RG1077 before buying one, that does not happen in this state very often. *Good to see another option than the UV777BK with the H-S-H set up, nothing like position # 2 & 4 for clean tones on the H-S-H.

definately good to see the 2-1-2 configuration making a comeback. I know some like the 2-2 but IMHO that really is dumbing down a guitar by removing options. This is probably the 7 i'd buy if i didn't have a UV777BK ..glen

Glen I agree! so much more range with the H-S-H over the H-H. The RG1077XL Machine looks quite awesome! Priced nice too, This may be the Machine I buy next. My only concern is the XL scale? Sounds like it has a little tighter tension from what im understanding.

Put the Guitar in a UV1000c case and that's some class!
Like to have the UV7PWH, UV777BK, RG1077XLRB all three 777 side by side in my Music room.
This just may have to be my new Goal?

Small correction that AX7221 is made in Korea not China.

Ibanez 7-strings in 2001

Hi
Based on most of the spec sheets I have come across on the net...I am still puzzled...are there two batches or more production of the RG7620GN ? I recently tried one at a guitar store in Aussie and the neck does not have the extra bubba reinforcement...based on most of the specs here n elsewhere the neck should have that..I was told that the earlier batches of the 7 strings came with this reinforcement while the later ones dont is that true? Besides, the pickups on the RG7620GN are ALL New7s is that right? No more blaze pickups at all? Or are the earlier batches of the GN loaded with blaze? Damn confusing..anyway anyone has some specs on the New7s? They seem to lack the clarity and punch..quite crappy if u ask me...probably loaded in the 7620Gns to save cost..what a shame!

All 7620 have the new 7's, even the old ones. Earlier models didn't have the bubinga strips, The models since 2000 or 1999 have them.

Correct me if I'm wrong but wasnt the RG7620 GN just introduced in 2000? I dont remember it being around in 1999. And since Ibanez puts the stripe on ALL RG7's and S7's since 1999 I find it really odd for a GN to not have one. I could be wrong. But in 1999 all they had were the 7620's in black and the 74's. Or at least I thought so. Maybe the first GN's used left-over 7620 necks or something (like the 7421's having a 7621 neck) which weren't intended to have the stripe...

what I heard was that the 7620Gn was introduced in 2000 but I may be wrong...ard the time when the new Ibanez site was still making headways..anyway I really wonder how often they update that webpage...besides, I think the jap site is much more informative..altho that isnt as updated as well...
I didnt know they actually used the left over necks from the earlier production...thats quite crappy in the sense that some pple actually pay more and feel more 'contented' and 'secure' that their guitar neck is reinforced..but I wonder how much difference that extra strip of bubinga makes...
I seldom see the new ibanez guitars having that extra neck anymore..like the newer RG470s..and the new 7420s..probably attempting AGAIN to save production costs..sigh..I don't know if even the prestige models have that extra strip now...it used to be on virtually almost every higher end Ibanez models...
