Ibanez 7620, questions.

Hey, maybe buying a RG7620, but the seller says its a -99 and that its a 7420 body and 7620 neck, and thats how they made them at the time because they had many spare parts, is this correct? The color is Galaxy black.
What do you think of that combination? All is original exept the knobs, but the originals come with, and its installed with straplocks. A few covered dings but seems to be in good shape. Its up for 840 USD, gonna try get it down to maybe 700, but from what others wrote in others forum thats still alot for it, but this is sweden also, taxes makes most things expensive. Here is a pic. http://vendolin.se/Bigpicpop.asp?Ann...0_55ibanez.JPG

Then theres also another announced for 760 US, which i think is a normal 7620 in black and it seems to be more worn out and the seller says so, seller hasnt said what year it was made. Knobs i dont think are original, but i dont know. http://vendolin.se/Annonce_Detail.as...onceid=5252043
doesnt look as beautiful, but.
Thanks!

Re: Ibanez 7620, questions.

All sounds suspicious to me. If it is a 7420 body, the guitar is a 7420. I know a lot of the 7421's had 7621 necks, so this is probably the same thing. Still doesn't make it a 7620 though.
The killer for me would be the trem - the 7420 had the inferior LoTRS7, as opposed to the 7620's LoPro Edge. Look here for all the other differences:
http://www.jemsite.com/ibanez/spec_ib7.htm
The guitar in your photo is a 7420, and $840 is a lot for a 7420.

Re: Ibanez 7620, questions.

Hm, acording to that sheet then, the second one that i thought was all original has a 7420 neck? Cos the sheet says it has a maple/bubinga neck and thats whats at the pic on the second lick. So then the first one is a RG7620 Neck witha 7420 body, and the other one is a 7620 body (or maybe its even a whole 7420) and 7420 neck?
Can anyone confirm?

Re: Ibanez 7620, questions.

The second one is a 7620. Look at the type of trem on it and the pick up routes. I wouldn't get too excited about the stripe on the neck.

... and even by European standards it's expensive for the condition it is in.

Obviously you've never been to Sweden. Second-hand market is nil and void as far as Ibanez goes. I've seen some pretty scandalous **** in my days!

What do you think about 600 usd for the second one? Maybe i can get the first one for that to. Btw, the tapes are removed, they give an impression of it being a piece of crap.

Re: Ibanez 7620, questions.

I paid £150 for a 7421. The neck is stamped 7621, plus it has the stripe. Year is 2000.

Both the 76xx and 74xx used the same neck, only the pickups and bridge are different.

My RG7420 has a stamped 7620 neck and 7420 body, so they must have put some spare parts together at some point.

Re: Ibanez 7620, questions.

I had a 7620, I changed the body for a 7420 body which had been swirled. The tremolo stud holes and the tremolo rout are different between the two (the 7620 has an edge pro and the 7420 something else) The guy I bought the body from put a new rout for the tremolo and enlarged the holes but found there was less wood and that caused a few problems. The neck was a perfect fit as were all the plastic covers - except the tremolo cover. The routed recess was larger than the 7620 plate.
In short the necks and pickups are interchangeable BUT the tremolos are not (even the rear cover plate).

They are not putting spare parts together. It's a common thing for Ibanez to do this if 2 or more models share the same neck. Happens all the time and always has done.

The difference in the RG76xx and 74xx is only in the hardware. More specifically, the bridge and pickups.

7621 = Higher quality fixed bridge and 2 x Dimarzio humbuckers
7620 = Lo-Pro Edge 7 bridge and 2 x Dimarzio humbuckers
7421 = Lower quality fixed bridge and 2 x Ibanez humbuckers
7420 = Lo-TRS 7 bridge and 2 x Ibanez humbuckers

Otherwise it's the exact same guitar.

Re: Ibanez 7620, questions.

The routing for the bodies is not the same for the pup cavity and the trem cavity though. That's the issue I'm having with my custom body right now. How do I get a lo-pro7 trem to fit into my RG7420 body.
