Ibanez 8 string

Anyone try the new 8 string RG? Is it out yet? It's more guitar then I'll ever need but I can't help but be curious.

Re: Ibanez 8 string

Tried it while at Namm. Big neck, but that's to be expected.. the set up was decent.. what surprised me the most was the weight. She's got a little backside to her! lol..
VERY intriguing instrument!

Re: Ibanez 8 string

Someone over on sevenstring.org ordered one and has been told the expected arrival date has been put back due to 'neck stability issues' Ibanez is having with them.
Don't know how accurate it is but it did come from an Ibanez supplier so i don't think they'd say it if they hadn't been told that.

Re: Ibanez 8 string

neck stability? that never bothered bc rich lol.

I really want to have a go on one, but I want to tune for an extra high rather than low.

Good luck with that, you'll struggle to find any string that will tune to a high A or even high G, i read Fender tried it with the Alex Gregory 7 string Strat and they had to abandon it because the high A kept snapping.

Re: Ibanez 8 string

his has fanned frets, so the high strings are shorter scale so less tension is needed
the ibanez one has 30 inch or something so high A is completely unfeasible

Re: Ibanez 8 string

Yeah. They seem really cool. I'd love to try one out. Although I don't even have a 7 yet so I'm certainly not going to go with an 8 lol.

They're just using the wrong strings. You can have a high A with a .006 gauge string that has a higher tensile strength than most .010 strings (high A has 550,000 psi). Contact Gary Goodman if you're intersted.

Neck stability issues? If that's true- not good. It's not like it's necessary to have 2 truss rods on an 8-string, but don't you think they'd anticipate from the get-go that they'd have to take a few extra measures? Heck, even the RG550 re-issues have titanium reinforcements.

That has a low F# and if it's not already sold, he's going to sell it.
