Ibanez Doubleneck 6&7 String

I just played one of those 6&7 string doublenecks in Black with oval inlays.
The guy at the store thought Ibanez only made 16 of these.

Anyone know if it's really is this rare? They want big bucks but I have to admit- it's flawless.

Not even close. I've heard production #'s ranging from 100-200 and they were sold all over the globe, but at $3200 list they sold like turds, many STILL in dealer inventories.

To me a 6/7 combo is useless. I would rather get a 7 string because you can play it like a 6 or 7. Pretty cruddy idea to me. Now if you find the 6/12 one then mos def snag that beauty.

I've only seen one in person, and that was in the guitar shop at Disney World (next to a DNA and a JS2k). But Rich's stats are probably right. At any rate, it all depends on how much you want it, and how much it's worth to you.

A 7/14 would be a more impressive instrument, and more unique as well. Jeez, even Sam Ash's store brand had a 6/7 doubleneck. *yawn*

Rich's comments have been consistently more accurate than local music store info over the years so I don't question him.

I had not seen or played one of these before so I thought I'd mention it and get more info.

There is still one N.O.S. at a local dealer in Denver. I've been tempted by it a couple of times, but I'm happy with my S540TN-RR. Far fewer of those floating around

The only information the dealers get is rep drivel, typically how many guitars their distributor got.

Ever tried playing in drop-D and standard at the same time?

I've seen a few custom job 14 string guitars and they were only really any good for screwing around on.

Basically they are financially a pain to supply strings for, and vastly unusable on a large scale, unless you really like playing "Alone I Break".
