Which Model do you like best and why? I really want to get my hands on an Ibanez with a maple fretboard for my collection and just wanted to guage which is the better axe. I have seen alot of 550 praise out there, and not too much info on the 1550.

i would say 550 with edge/lo pro edge trem.

but if i was given any other option, I want a non-pickguard RG with maple board.

550's are becoming more and more prized among collectors, and theirs a number of different options out there for you. You could also be on the lookout for a 750. Both are great models, imo at least try and stick with the edge trem.

I loved my 550. Never tried a 1550. The 550 I had was from 1988 or 1987, so one of the very first ones. The maple was great for a while, but then it became discoloured easily, there was not much I could do to save it because I was playing constantly. I do like the feel of maple, but since I've had an RG750 with a rosewood board which has remained flawless for 16 years, my preference is rosewood, it still looks great much later on in it's life. If you like the wear and tear that a maple board gives you, cool.

I voted for the 550, just because it's such a reliable instrument. Haven't tried a 1550 so I couldn't vote for it, but I'd say that either one will be fine. Maybe the 1550 would be better because it's newer, so likely there's less wear?

I'm sure that the 1550 had a Wizard profile, btw, just as the 550 did, only recently it's changed slightly since 2004, I think, with the introduction of the RG2550 (my next guitar). Either way, you can't really go wrong if it's in good condition.

To the other guys, JEM777DY and PGM would cost considerably more. I'd go for a 2002 model 550 in mint condition. Shouldn't be hard to find. Any colour you want, as long as it's black.

Although I love the 550, i'd say "other" and go for a 770DX.

I value the opinions of this community and wanted to consult them before I drop my money on a guitar that I can't play before I buy =)
