Ibanez Prestige SRG2520

Hello,
this is my first post. Hope I'm in the right forum.

I got an Ibanez Prestige SRG2520 in 2008 off an Aussie guitarist who himself bought two of them in a Shimamura shop in Japan. Mine is one of the 75 white ones (there are 75 black ones out there also) and came in an extremely good condition for a 2003 guitar. It also is the 5th one to have been built in the whole 150 run.

I'm trying to collect all the information I can get on this guitar but it seems that, as it is a limited run for the Shimamura shops, not much can be said about them. Somebody even posted a translation of what I said on a French forum here I think, this confirming the lack of information on these axes.

One thing that was quite surprising with this guitar is that it was perfect in every aspect for a Prestige guitar but had Dimarzio/Ibz pickups that were thin and lacked punch. For this reason, I had the stock pickups changed for some made by French luthier, Kamel Chenaouy.

The bridge one is a Kamel Chenaouy NTM which is pretty much like a Dimebucker but with a tighter tone. It can be splitted twice to get only one of the 4 active bars used. The neck one is a Kamel Chenaouy Blues which is pretty much like the Seymour Duncan JB pickups.

Someone posted that these were low end guitars. I'm not really sure about that. It is said that they were made by the J-Custom Team but here also I'm not pretty sure.

Anybody has any more info on these guitars please?

Cheers

Re: Ibanez Prestige SRG2520

I can't tell you more info besides ones you already knew.
but I can tell for sure...it's not low end model.
If compared to the J custom, yes..lower end.
If compared to the prestige... same level as any RG 2XXX.

Re: Ibanez Prestige SRG2520

Thanks for the info psychoshredder. I'm not really acquainted to Ibanez guitars apart from knowing that a lot of great guitarists play (and played... John Petrucci) on these.

Maybe a stupid question: why are RG2XXX considered as good level Prestige?

Re: Ibanez Prestige SRG2520

Well, the common prestige starts from RG 1XXX, example : RG 1550, considering as an entry level of prestige line.
a level up is RG 2XXX, example : RG 2550, this model uses Dimarzio IBZ pickups and maybe some fancy inlays.
another level, RG3XXX, example : RG 3550, with real Dimarzio and super wizard neck.

Re: Ibanez Prestige SRG2520

Your SRG is a very special guitar. It's a 2003 spot production model

There are features not usually found together.

Pearloid binding on the neck
Neck volute with top mount nut
3-piece Wizard prestige profile
Jumbo frets with REAL prestige treatment (when prestige meant something)
MATCHING HEADSTOCK!!!........the logo is silver mirror...not the fake MOP/abalone of other prestiges.
VLX-91 multi-switch........sorry I can't find info on switching options. Probably the same as an RGT3120.
First run DiMarzio-IBZ pups. You may not like them, but keep them around.

This is a damn nice guitar that is a long way up the ladder from "low-end". One of them sold in May for $1200 USD.

Wow, you just killed me there. I didn't know that it was THAT much different. Actually, I didn't know that much about these guitars .

The switch just gave way after some time, but I did keep the IBZ pups. I'll just post the photos as soon as I can.

Re: Ibanez Prestige SRG2520

Any idea of what type of wood has been used on this guitar? I was thinking about selling it but I'm starting to change my mind since this thread started.

Re: Ibanez Prestige SRG2520

Yup, it's basswood.........obviously a favorite of ours......LOL

I would certainly keep it, it would be one of my "prize" guitars if I owned it.

Re: Ibanez Prestige SRG2520

A guy even offered to swap for a brand new SG. I knew I had something brewing somewhere here. This is why I tried to find more out. Won't sell it I think. Basswood, hmm, neutral with great sustain. That's your Ibby!
