Ibanez RG 170 Opinions?

I can get one with a hardshell case for 130. Any objections?

Re: Ibanez RG 170 Opinions?

If it's an Ibanez hard shell case, then there's nothing wrong with that price. For that matter, as long as the case is in pretty good shape no matter WHAT kind it is, there's nothing wrong with the price. The guitar is nothing special whatsoever, but I suppose it wouldn't have to be at that price.

Re: Ibanez RG 170 Opinions?

Well I just wanted to get something a bit lower that I could kick up a notch with better pickups. Is it basswood or plywood? I've heard both and I've heard someone say "The wood is alder, some kind of plywood". Lawl. Alder aint plywood douche :P. Anyway, good buy?

I'm pretty sure it's basswood bodied. IMO, that's a good price. You never know, the guitar might actually feel good to play!

Hell no. It has the old strat style trem. The one where you just put the string through the back and DONT cut the nobs off. I plan to mod it to just a fixed bridge. Is it possible?

Well, you're going to have a hole in the body where the bridge is currently positioned, as well as the route in the back for the spring cavity. Of course, it's possible to fill these in, but I'd never undertake a project like that on such a cheap guitar. There may be fixed bridges out there that could be fitted as a replacement for a trem, I'm not sure. But the best option is probably just to block the trem from moving somehow and call it good.

Oh, and I'm 99% sure it's a solid body guitar, as previously noted, most likely basswood.

I just know these cheap old trems to break strings more often.

Yeah get a better quality vintage style trem to replace it. They aren't too expensive.

Yeah. I saw a nice trem on a Fender Strat made in the US. It was neat.
