Ibanez, RG, Prestige, premium, Iron Label

Not into the newer lineup of RGs that Ibanez has been coming out with lately (such as Premiums, Iron Labels, etc.). They just don't appeal to me. lol

But I'm curious,
What are your guys thoughts on the newer/fancier Iron Labels featuring ebony fretboards?

I know Ibanez rarely does Ebony and if they do, it is usually seen on J. custom models.

Not a fan of Iron Label--metal head target models.
I'll take my Premium over any one of them any day.

I'll take my 350EXZ over them They sound cool and all and I have tried out the 7 string RG, but meh. EMG pickups are "talent boosters"

Re: Ibanez, RG, Prestige, premium, Iron Label

Hi All,

I'm planning to get my first fix bridge ibanez guitar and I narrowed the choice to 3 options:
ibanez rga121 prestige
ibanez rg921 premium
ibanez rg3521 prestige

Te problem is that it is really hard to find an rga121 (It looks so awesome) the rg3521 is more expensive than the others. So the premium left. But I'm not really sure about the quality (sound and bulit quality). Are these guitars about the same level or you would take the prestige over a premium?

I'm sorry but I have to respectfully disagree about EMGs being "talent boosters." All they are is a very high output pickup that sounds super tight and has a quick attack. Obviously not for jazz or blues but there is always this strange hate for EMGs. While I agree they are not great for everything they are the best at one thing. There is a place for both active and passive pickups but if I had to have one guitar, and one guitar only, they would have EMG 81/85 combo. But that's just my opinion and you know what they say about those....

The talent booster remark was a quote from Timo Tolkki that he posted on his facebook page some time ago when he was telling everyone about the pups he used on his ESPs. It was just a joke I personally dont like emgs but I dont think they're bad pups. I even thought about trying them in one of my ibbys so I could get that older stratovarius sound.

Not all guitars were great during the golden era either man. I'm sure there were quite a few lemons out there

Yep--and I've heard more than one grumble about the USRG.

BUNK!!!!!
Ever played an early MIJ RG470?
One of the funnest guitars in my collection was a 1992 RG470 EG with a stock Edge.
Great neck, and played as well as any of my 570s.

Re: Ibanez, RG, Prestige, premium, Iron Label

LOL I figured someone would respond to that.
Mine was a later model that came with that TRS piece of junk. I paid 250 for it in like new used condition and even then I felt owned. The neck on it wasn't much better.

I have no experience with the earlier ones, but it appears yours has an edge tremolo, and not a "push me off the edge" tremolo.

Re: Ibanez, RG, Prestige, premium, Iron Label

I've got a Korean made 95 RG 470 which was luckily hooked up with a Japanese made Wizard neck. The LO-TRS II was replaced with an Edge and it's a beast of a guitar.

The late nineties Japanese made 470s are a also good. Not equipped with an Edge, but the LO-TRS (Japanese made) are quite decent.

The 2003 ones also came with Edge Pros, so they are great guitars too.
