Smile Ibanez RG350EX setup

Hi, so my good friend Rich has agreed to sell me his barely used
Ibanez RG350EX for a great price of £150. He has upgraded the body plate to black and put new knobs on it, I believe to make it look more like the RG550EX version. He's also throwing in an Ibanez hard case with the deal as well... what a nice guy!

I'm only about 5 months in to my guitar journey, mainly playing my Ibanez acoustic guitar during my lunch breaks and time permitting any chance I get at home (not often with 10 month old daughter running us ragged! -lol).

I intend getting a 75w Line 6 Spider IV amp.

Now, I would like to play around and learn Slipknot songs, Korn, Deftones, Limp Bizkit on the RG350EX when I buy it so intend buying some Heavier guitar strings to have put on it. I believe most Slipknot songs are in:
B, F#, B, E, G#, C# tuning - Drop D then 1 1/2 steps down.

I have found these strings on Amazon and wonder if they would be a good option? D'Addario EXL148 XL Nickel Wound Extra Heavy (.012-.060) Electric Guitar Strings

Could anyone please tell me which strings would be a good choice to put on the RG350EX to play the type of things mentioned above?

I realise Korn stuff is mainly played with an extra string down to A. If I was to get strings such as the ones listed above, would I be able to tune them down that extra step to A, or would that just sound horrible?

I shall probably ask Rich to put the heavy strings on for me and adjust the setp up, as he has much more experience in playing around and adjusting the various parts of the guitar than I do. I just wondered whether anyone could offer some advice or a few main pointers in setting up the RG350EX properly with Heavy strings?

Sorry if this post is waffly and unclear. But I hope you can get the jist of what im trying to ask and you can offer some help.

Many thanks

Re: Ibanez RG350EX setup

usually, and I say usually because some people have done it, normal 6 string guitars dont like being tuned that low. That is why they make extended scales, and 7 strings.

A is really low to go on a standard Ibanez the strings are going to be like noodles. And the heavier gauge to get them taught is going to put undo stress on the neck.

Then comes the whole intonation and trem setup, you wont be able to easily tune back and forth depending on your mood or what tuning you want to use that day.

My suggestion is maybe try and find a used RG7321 that would be more suited to your style, and save you a lot of headaches in the long run.

My 2 cents.

Re: Ibanez RG350EX setup

They'll work for drop B just fine. I use way thicker for lower tunings on my 6 strings. But for A, I won't use any smaller then a .68. if you go up a size and get the baritone strings (i think they're .13-.62 with a wound third) that they make, you can use it for both B and A
