Ibanez RG550/570 making a comeback

https://www.digimart.net/cat01/shop4764/DS04222973/

Is Ibanez reissuing(again) these models? Seriously they should just make these guitars a permanent in their lineup. Kinda like an in between between Prestige and Standard models and totally ditch the Premiums.

it would be great to see these MIJ & return and stay in the lineup forever. the 1xxx (four digit) nomenclature never made any sense.

They are going to be around for at least all of 2018 based on what I learned today when I went to a local place and looked into it. Also, I've seen some unsubstantiated reports that the 655 line has been discontinued.

Let's hope they release it stateside. Most Japanese shops wont export rosewood outside of the country to just avoid the whole CITES thing.

655 another horrific naming idea. My point is sales be damned offer the 550/570/521 continually instead of letting others buy non-Ibanez bright & other color superstrats. For some models (like these) Ibanez really has to get off the "sell N number of units to continue production in year 20XX)

Re: Ibanez RG550/570 making a comeback

Ridiculous to think any manufacturer should continue to market a model that is not selling enough to warrant it's inclusion in the current lineup. If they sell well they'll stay, if they don't they'll get axed, and that's how it should be.

Completely agree. My ONLY minor gripe is that they aren't AANJ, but beggars cant be choosers and they want to rerelease these as they were back in the late 80s so I'm not entirely complaining. I have 2 square heel Ibbies right now as it is.

I also agree that the 655 naming shenanigans were stupid. So Ibanez, you're telling me you're gonna classify all your guitars by how many strings they have now? I get it for 8 or 9 strings, but they could have just released the Genesis collection worldwide YEARS ago and they would've sold like hot cakes.

Re: Ibanez RG550/570 making a comeback

When I sent the Ikebe link and asked what colors we were getting here, I got no reply. That means we'll be getting, no idea what colors, but I'd bet all if they're killing off the 655's, which are still selling but not in the numbers they were so it is time for a change.

Sorry IMO it was brilliant and clearly denoted what a model was from the model number. But it only works if they stick with it.

If they had released the Genesis they would have sold well, for a couple years and then, not, like everything else. New models only sell well for a couple years until everybody that would spend the money to buy new already have, the rest will wait for the heavily discounted used market to scratch their itch.

Thats gonna make it hard for me to get my RFR in a reasonable amount of time. Ibanez always ships overseas more units than within Japan so if you guys get RFR as well, I may have to wait an extra month or two, unless I find out that they can get one in at launch, then I'll have it sometime at the end of this month or in december.

Clearly some (not you) consider modern on demand production capability & product management. Ibanez strategically would offers them NEW thru dealers which benefits Ibanez compared to sales to used market (bad) and other brands (worse). So simple & effective sorry.
