Ibanez RG550DX versions

I'm just trying to sort out how many different RG550DXs that exist..

I know of:

RG550DX LB - Laser Blue
RG550DX PN - Purple Neon
(RG550DX EG - Emerald Green??)

And then somewhere I remember reading that the *RG550 EG - Emerald Green* also is a DX becuase it's got cosmo black hardware and a green (color matching..) pickguard, which seems to add up, but that's the question I've got.. Is the EG a DX?

And are there others?

Re: Ibanez RG550DX versions

AFAIK only the 2 that you mentioned, PN and LB. Any 550 EG model that you see with a matching scratchplate is an aftermarket job and just an RG550EG with the standard black scartchplate replaced. The only green RG550 that had a matching scratchplate was the RG550 serpent model and that had the serpent inlay on the maple fretboard.

Re: Ibanez RG550DX versions

There are also the RG500 models which are basically the same as the 550DX....with exception of the color matched inlays.

edit--and don't forget the RG550LTD. These also had the matching color mirrored pickguards, but sported rosewood boards and sharks tooth inlays. Thete were PN and BK versions--and came out in 1994.

Ok, so the EG with color-matching pickguard is not a DX

Actually there were 2 green RGs with mirror pickguard, and I think the pickguard both were gold..

#1 - RG5000SG - (Which people think makes Serpent Green. The green RG5000 which is the same color as the one with serpent inlay. Color-matching dot inlays.. Mable fretboard

#2 - RG Serpent - which has the serpent inlay on maple fretboard..

@GodzillaPopcicle

"There are also the RG500 models which are basically the same as the 550DX....with exception of the color matched inlays."

- Yes, RG5000 has color-matched dot inlays. They were like the RG550DX, I figured too, great to get a confirmation they are.. The RG5000DY don't have matching dots, so except for the knobs (and tip?) and the pickguard, I can't see anything that does not scream regular DY..

"edit--and don't forget the RG550LTD. These also had the matching color mirrored pickguards, but sported rosewood boards and sharks tooth inlays. Thete were PN and BK versions--and came out in 1994."

- I know about the RG550LTD, there are 3 or 4 colors of these..
PN, BK, some gray-ish color and I think there are one more. I did not count these in as they don't fit my criteria of RG550DX (maple board..) though they have color-matching mirror pickguard (at least the PN does.. If not the pics I've seen of RG550LTD PN the pickguard may be aftermarket..)

--

So the ones that are DX
RG550DX-LB, RG550DX-PN

LB - Laser Blue
PN - Purple Neon

--

And the ones that may count
RG5000-RR, RG5000-LB, RG5000-SG, RG5000-PN (RG5000-DY)
RG Serpent

RR - Ruby Red
LB - Laser Blue
SG - Serpent Green (Also the Serpent-inlay one)
PN - Purple Neon
DY - Desert Yellow
--

And then the LTDs
RG550LTD-PN, RG550LTD-BK, RG550LTD-DAB, RG550LTD-NPM (RG550LTD-PWT?)

PN - Purple Neon
BK - Black
DAB - Dark Adriatic Blue?
NPM - New Penny (Metallic?)
PWT? - Pewter (Gray-ish)

--

And of course all the other *regular* RG550s

Re: Ibanez RG550DX versions

Just stumbled across this listing on 3bay - http://www.ebay.com/itm/ORIGINAL-Vin...item1e7e13f5dc

It's an Ibanez RG550(DX) - EG, which has got a green mirror pickguard and *all the finest hardware available at the time it was made*.. So, it's a DX which originally came with mirror pickguard afterall?

I'm asking because the seller claims it's all original, and I think he would have mentioned the change of pickguard if it was ever changed..? Maybe not, but it just made me wonder all over again about the emerald green one..

I'm sorry if it's illegal to post listings like that, but I just did it to get definite proff whether it came with a mirror pickguard or not, because, as I wrote above, the seller claims it to be all original, and does not mention the pickguard..

Can't be a DX. Read the sellers description then have a look at the serial number. That's a 1990 serial number on that neck, yet the seller claims it's a 1993 model.

Re: Ibanez RG550DX versions

Just had another quick look at the auction you posted, the headstock has been refinished at some point, doesn't really match the green on the body and the position of the logo is way off.

Re: Ibanez RG550DX versions

It's weird that you mention that ebay guitar, because I bought one similar to it in 1995.

I'm pretty sure the serial on the neck was from 1992, but I've since swapped necks as the truss rod was messed up. I can assure you the headstock matched the body paint, but I don't know if the pickguard and knobs were aftermarket.

This is the pic of what it originally looked like when I bought it.

And, now that I actually dug some more, I found this:

EG is one of the finishes listed under the RG550DX. So, is it a DX or not?
