the 7620 is discontinued. You can still get one though if you're looking for one. (Not to do a shameless plug, but I'm selling a brand new one).

The 7620's used or new will be far cheaper than a 1077XL. The 1077XL is more versatile, because it has the middle single coil. The 1077XL will also have more low end definition if you plan on tuning down, because of the extended scale.

On the flipside, it is this extended scale that may or may not be comfortable for you.

I would love to try a 1077XL, because I think the extended scale concept is great.

If you want a play by play, search in the archives for 1077XL, and you'll see threads from a guy named Spiral Acid, who owns one or two 1077XL's.

I've tried both, and I walked home with the 1077XL. Feel-wise, tone-wise, and application-wise, I've found the 1077XL to be a superior beast as compared to every other Ibanez I've tried. Even my JPM90th doesn't match-up, except for the pups on that one. You'll find that the 27" scale very very important when recording... seriously.

One. Because my ****ty local dealer refuses to try to get the black one for me from Japan...

Your local dealer has nothing to do with what your distributor orders. If he asked the distributor he'd get a flat no. IF he had a really good relationship with the purchasing agent of the distributor. the agent might possibly put in an order for 1 specific guitar.

All is a moot point since you can personally order one from a Japanese dealer

It is in this case, because the local dealer for Singapore is actually the Region-Wide distributor in South East Asia... Damn...

Yeah, but you're right. I could order it online. But I like to choose my axes personally on-site.

Ok,if buy the 1077XL i will run it through an Mesa boogie dual rectifer.
I guess then it will be the "ultimate-extrem-shred-sound"??
Can someone explain me the tone differences between the 7620 and 1077XL a little bit precisly??

the last time I heard Spiral's 1077XL, it had a really tight defined sound, but that's also because he had it tunes standard, B-E, instead of A-D. They come tuned A-D though, and that's probably what I'd play it in.

More clarity, especially in the higher registers.
When you play the low B from the 12th fret up to the 24th, due to the longer scale, those notes will sound much brighter than a 25,5" scale guitar. (like the RG7-620).

The RG1077XL has also the middle single coil, which gives you more possibilities.
I also think the 1077 looks nicer than the 7-620. (binding, finish,...)

One notice though, due to the longer scale, if you tune the 1077 to standard tuning, you will encounter more string tension than on the 7-620.
The 1077 is ideal for downtuning.

Hope that helped some.

Cheers,
Joten

I have both and the 1077XL does seem to have a really nice feel to it. Difficult to be more specific! The 1077XL did *not* come detuned as standard though - normal B-E. Sounds and feels damn nice like it too!

Don't forget the 1077XL is also a Prestige model, so it has a MUCH nicer feeling neck.

1077. I tried the 7620 out a year ago, but I didn't like it that much, tried out the 1077 and the neck was gorgeous. Had no problem with the scale length either. And it's got a middle pu! woo hoo!

You can hear it here again.

The guitars are all done with the 1077XL...

Check out "Storm" and "Facing The Pain" for the best tonal variations.
