Ibanez RGR420EX

Hello,

Im new to the forum. Havent even scratched the surface of what is on here.

I must be honest and say I am a Jackson fan but have been offered a RGR420EX in arctic frost. I was just wondering if anyone has any idea what I should be looking to pay. its a nice guitar but I dont have much knowledge of Ibanez so don't want to get ripped off.

Thanks in advance for any help.

Re: Ibanez RGR420EX

If i remember correctly, those are ones that were offered with the reverse headstock. They were produced around 2008-2009. It has the wizard II neck profile (which is a really slim & fast neck) basswood body, Edge III trem & V7/V8 pickups. It's no prestige model but I would say it's very on par with the standard quality RG models. The V7/V8 pickups aren't that great but they'll get the job done. I don't remember what they origionally sold for but i noticed GC has a used one for sale online for $280

Re: Ibanez RGR420EX

I own one right now, bought it brand new for $400, and it is a GREAT axe! People say the Edge III knife edges wear out, BS mine are still good, and it holds tune really really well. It plays great for most styles. The neck is really amazing, its really thin and fast to play on. Right now, Im upgrading the block to a Big Brass Block, with coated heavy duty springs and brass claw and a trem stopper, (so i can drop tune to D and still stay in tune) The only gripe about it that i would say is that it doesn't hold sustain very long in the highs, but it could be just my gear, Im playing through a BOSS GT-10, so maybe thats why. Going through a VOXAC130 with a METAL ZONE boss pedal tho, it sounds at home

I have had people play on it and say it plays better than their thousand dollar gibson or fender. plus the arctic frost is a real eye catcher!

Re: Ibanez RGR420EX

and as far as the pickups, they aren't the best, but they are passive hum buckers, If you have the right gear, it will sound badass, I actually like the stock V7 and V8. I was thinking about putting in EMGs but I love the sound of passives over actives. Just a side note as well, If you have distortion pedals and such, lighter strings would be the way to go on this axe, I have tried a ton of strings and the lighter gauge D'addarios work best! Mine came stock with D'addario lights, but then again I usually like to solo and play all over the place. Here is a link to my sound cloud and a song I made using my RGR420EX and my BOSS GT-10 using super light D'addarios, stock everything is still on this bad boy. BTW this song was just for fun so its not perfect or anything, and I don't normally don't play metal, Just thought this would be useful as a soundtest for ya!
