Ibanez RT240

Well, hello and all. I'm new to this board and have a small question for all of you with a good knowledge of guitars of Ibanez make.

I've got a Ibanez RT240 (it doesn't say so on the guitar, but anyways...) It has got s/n F209888 and is made in Japan.

All I can be really shure of is land(Jp) and year(-92) and month(June) if I am correct.

What I've discovered is that the RT went in and out of production in -92 and that makes them somewhat rare if I'm right. And in my case I believe its even more so 'cause of the guitar setup (H-S-S). I know this setup to be standard on my issue, but all other RT240's I've seen on the net (a small number) have had H-S-H setup.

It plays great and has an awsome tone, fitting from Metal to Jazz and is in good working order (as in excellent). I wonder if this is a coming vintage or if it was a flawed guitar and that was what made Ibanez cut its production.

Hmm... According to the catalogs available on Ibanez Rules site (see banner on top of this page), the RT only appears in the 93 catalog, and there wasn't an RT250 (only a 650, 450, 452, and 150). I have a 650 and a 450 and think they're great (except for the heel joint). Anyway, I was wondering why you think it's an RT250? Just curious.

about rt240

I found this image from an european catalog.

(paste this into your browser, geocities doesn't support crosssite browsing apperently...)

And that's the guitar I have.

It says RT240VS (vintage sunburst) and its from the -93 catalog i believe.

Ah, silly me! I didn't notice that you were from Sweden! (Plus, I didn't mean to keep saying "250" when you clearly said you had a "240"). That would explain it. Anyway, there are several old threads here in which people praised the RT series. I think the Viper necks are great. The RT450 I got recently is also a tobacco sunburst and it's in perfect shape. I picked it up for $149 in an auction. There are quite a few RT650s around: I'd say 2-3 show up per month in the auctions, often mislabelled. But I wasn't familiar with the RT240, so at least by US standards that would be unusual. I wonder if it's basically the same guitar as the RT450 released over here? The page you linked to "wasn't available" when I tried to open it.

Got the page to open now, and the RT240 does look quite a bit like our RT450 except the 450 is maybe more of a tobacco (2-tone) burst. Interesting how some very similar guitars show up with different model numbers depending on the country where sold.
