Ibanez S-series USA custom, need info

I just bought what I think is a USA custom Ibanez S-series. I am only familiar with Japanese made/Korean made. It has a metal plate on the neck joint that says 1726 Winchester Rd. Bensalem PA 13020 U.S.A.

Serial number is 88**** which I'm assuming is a 1988 model. The neck has no markings or serial number on the headstock so I'm trying to see if the neck is the original or a replacement. I know that Japanese made models have the serial number on the headstock (most of the time)

ps. the tuners on the headstock read "made in Japan"

Any info would help. It was most definitely worth the 40 bucks I paid for it...

I am suffering from severe noob-itis. I'm not sure if they'll let me post pics yet but I will give it a try

Re: Ibanez S-series USA custom, need info

I'm guessing it's not a USA Custom per-se, but probably one of the early US assembled (from Japanese parts) H&S 540's. And $40 is a killer score, even if it's beat to hell.

Read under H&S here: http://www.jemsite.com/articles-menu/usa-custom-shop/.

The neck and center pickups are IBZUSA single coils and the bridge is an EMG-81. I do have what I think is the original neck, and it does say H&S on the back. The serial number on this neck is F2180** so I know it was made at the Fujigen plant, not sure what year though. '92?

Re: Ibanez S-series USA custom, need info

Thanks for the link. I have done some research and found out that it is indeed a 1988 and it was the 1498th produced that year. It was assembled in the USA from Japanese made parts but I'm pretty sure the neck and middle single-coils are USA made DiMarzio's under the name IBZUSA. Also, there are three toggle switches in the place of the usual 5-way switch for the pickups. I need to get everything re-wired and have an input jack installed, also I have to get rid of that EMG and put a passive pickup in its place, not that I don't love EMG's (cause I'm all about them ****s) but there just simply isn't room for a 9V with all those switches. I am eyeballing a lime green Duncan Invader right now, I think it would be a great replacement for my playing style.

Thanks again for the info

It's built in the US but with a Japanese made body, neck and hardware. Pretty awesome score. I bought it from my drummer who knows nothing about guitars. He paid $50 for it and was frustrated because it isn't properly wired and is missing an input jack. He didn't want to take the time to get it worked on I said, "Hey I'll give you 40 bucks for it" ----Sold

nice score. looks legit. Looks like a first year saber going by the flip switches on the body.
