Yeah it's out of production. I don't know which differences are you talking about, except... in '93 or '94, Ibanez changed the tremolo from the Lo-Pro-Edge to the inferior Lo-TRS trems. The rest hasn't changed over thew years, I think. V1-S1-V2 Pickups and (I think) manufactured in Japan till the end.
The S470 is a pretty fine axe, especially from the Lo-Pro years. But if you're a Trem abuser I'd look out for a cheap S5XX.

How much will you pay for yours??

Later ones (ones with the TRS, I think) are Korean made, not Japanese.

I don't think so. I have a '97 Japan made that had originally a TRS sitting on my lap right now.

Yup, some are definitely made in Korea. I have what I believe is a 96 S470 (serial starts with C60...), complete with a "Made in Korea" decal, and the LO TRS trem. But, it's a beauty and plays well.

Now that's interesting
That sounds a bit odd.. why should they have produced the SAME model in 2 different factories at the same time? Or did they produce it in Japan, then after 94 in Korea, and since 97 again in Japan? Hmm are you certain yours is a 470?? Maybe one of us even got a replacement neck and doesn't know it ? I'll have to ask the guy I bought mine from again.

Yes, I'm sure. On the back of the headstock are the decals that say "S470 FM", the serial number (C609697, and "Made in Korea." I wonder if the fact that it is a flame maple explains it. Maybe they had the FM's done in Korea and the solids in Japan. I expect someone here knows the answer.

Ok after doing some searches on the net I came to the conclusion that there are tons of different S470 guitars out there (and I don't mean just different finishes)... Korea and Japan models, some with V pus, some with AHs.

I learn something new every day.

Just for info, I have a '94 model. I'm sure of that, and it's labeled made in Japan. It has the V pickups, and the TRS trem . I blocked the trem though, and it makes, surprisingly a really good blues guitar. Strung with .11's, you can wrench a TON of tones out of it. Well, happy hunting!

Well the RG470 has shifted production, from Japan to Korea and back to Japan again, so it's not unreasonable to think that the S470 did likewise.

As for guitars produced at different factories in the same year, probably one from before the move and one from after, simple as that.
