Ibanez S5470 vs RG1550

Hey guys I'm in a tough decision right now and I need some help. I can't decide between a S5470, and a RG1550. They're around the same price so that doesn't matter to me all that much. Here are some specs of each:

*Maple Fretboard
*Decent pickups
*Edge Pro Tremolo
*A little cheaper
*Mainly shred orientated

*Rosewood fretboard
*Not sure about the pickups on this one
*ZR2 Tremolo
*A little more expensive
*Still pretty shred orientated, but a little more versatile

*Prestige MIJ
*Both great guitars

Please help me hah.

Re: Ibanez S5470 vs RG1550

The 1550 is going to sound more "maple-y" versus the darker rosewood/mahogany tones of the 5470. The 1550 is going to give you the classic bright shredder sounds with the Edge pro and the 5470 is going to have a more modern metal sound and have the ZR trem (which some people boast against, but personally I have no quams with...)

Personally, Id grab one of the 1550's and throw in a TZ/AN combo (plus that poisoned pumpkin color is rad!)...i've heard alot of the 5470 clips with both the stock and upgraded pickups, and while ultra cool guitars tend to sound a little on the muddy side...

Re: Ibanez S5470 vs RG1550

i would have to pick the RG, i'm a RG guy so the decision is pretty simple... the best way to know which one you like is to play them... but the RG seems more confortable to me... dont know why but that is how i like it...

I wouldn't worry too much about pickups, you're only gonne end up replacing them anyway. Go with whichever you like the feel of best. I have an S and love it, which is why I chose that. I did have an RG style Squier (stagemaster), but the shape wasn't as comfortable to me.

I agree with skins. A guitar's feel is an incredibly personal thing. The best way to make this decision is to spend some time with both of them and decide for yourself. Don't worry so much about the specs, parts are parts and can be changed. Make your decision based on which one you think plays/feels better, because ultimately, while others are looking at it you will be playing it.

Re: Ibanez S5470 vs RG1550

This poll should be renamed "S vs. RG". You want an S? Get the S. You like RGs? Get the RG!

For RG vs. S think:

Superstrat shredder vs. Mahogany body shredder

Bright vs. Warm

Traditional body vs. thin body

I'd say the RG is probably something a lot of guitar players would like sight unseen and be able to pickup and enjoy with very little adjustment. Its a refined Stratocaster with humbuckers. The S is more unique and would probably be more of an acquired taste.

I voted for the RG.

Re: Ibanez S5470 vs RG1550

Hey folks i just wanted to say i own the Prestige RG 1550ML and it's great!! I must say it is heavier than my MIJ RG 470L and this surprised me because they are both basswood bodies. Maybe the maple neck and fretboard are the reason for this but i am not sure. Either way you go your getting a great guitar!! I just happen to like the RG's more than the S series.
