Sorry for the dumb question, but does "stopped importing" mean Ibanez still puts ZR bridges on S models in countries other than the US? If so, why did they stop importing them?

Re: Ibanez ZR bridge

For 2017 looks like the ZR has been fully replaced with Lo Pro and EZ2's worldwide.

Re: Ibanez ZR bridge

Do you have any idea why they are discontinuing the ZR bridge? It seems like they made a large investment in developing and promoting it. While reaction to the ZPS was generally negative, the ZR bridge itself seems to have been well-received on the whole.

Re: Ibanez ZR bridge

If the lawsuit only prevented Ibanez from using the ZPS, then they could still produce the ZR, right?

In that case, I wonder why they stopped producing the ZR bridge? While the ZPS had a lot of negative reaction, the same wasn't true of the ZR. It was featured prominently in marketing material for several years as something unique to Ibanez. Between that and their investment in designing and producing it, it seems Ibanez had a lot to lose by discontinuing it.

Anybody know the inside story of why they stopped producing the ZR?

Re: Ibanez ZR bridge

Anyone who knows is certainly is obligated not to say. Litigation & patent infringement can be very costly relative to the benefit of something like using the ZR (which is not likely to be a sales generator of any significance).

You can review the 2016 full catalog Asia here:

Re: Ibanez ZR bridge

Thanks, but according to Rich (see above), there was no litigation regarding the ZR, only the ZPS. So my question is: since there was no legal problem, why would they stop selling the ZR, which they had just recently (in the last few years) invested so much into producing and promoting? Unlike the ZPS, the ZR seems to have been relatively popular.

Re: Ibanez ZR bridge

I wouldn't call 2003 just recently. It had a long run, and was blamed for the "peculiar" sustain properties of everything it was used on recently.
