IC 500 Iceman

I just bought a IC 500 Iceman, it it's part of a limited run and japanese built. I got it with EMG's but would like to find out what the original pickup models would have been and where I might find said pickups. Thanks

Re: IC 500 Iceman

The IC500 which was made in Japan, was indeed made in low numbers (around 250). It never featured in any Ibanez catalogues as they produced the guitars to 'test the water' as to how they would sell. After the 1994 limited production run, the 'normal' line of Icemans started. The limited run models feature wider, more decorative binding, and 'black chrome' hardware.

I bought one from new in Denmark street, London for about Ģ800. It's easily one of my best guitars so well done on the purchase.

As far as the pickups go.. I'm really not sure what they are! Unfortunately my guitars are in storage for a couple of months (moving home) so I can't pop one out to look. If i was to make an educated guess, i'd say the pickups sound very similar to V7's but obviously in a mahogany body with glued neck you get a chunkier Les Paul kind of warmth. So if you get no luck finding some, maybe you could consider some pickups out of an old RG 550.

Good luck.

Re: IC 500 Iceman

This is just a wild guess - AH1 and AH2. My IC400 came with those, so perhaps they were found on the IC500 as well.

Re: IC 500 Iceman

That is a nice guitar. So many of Ibanez' cheaper models( artist, iceman etc) are really underrated by many people.

Re: IC 500 Iceman

I haven't been able to get info from my guitar yet (see post above), but I have found some info on the Ibanez hoshino gakki site. They list three sets of pickups used on Iceman guitars but because of the 'limited run' nature of the IC500, they may not be the ones actually used but worth a look anyway. Out of the three, only one set look anything like what were on the original, they are part numbers:

Here's the link so you can see for yourself https://cs.hoshinogakki.co.jp/i-publ...es/Login00.jsp Hope that works..

Becase the above part numbers seem to be used on low end guitars, I really doubt if they were used on the IC500's simply becasue the pickups on mine sound so good. I've never even questioned replacing them for aftermarket ones, that's how good they are!

Good luck.

Re: IC 500 Iceman

Just noticed that the link doesn't take you to where I was looking so on the first page just select the United Kingdom & English. Then Keyword search. Then electric guitars and IC Series and hit search.
