IC-700 Quality Control?

Was just wondering what the quality control was like on the Iceman IC-700s. Know they were made in Indonesia and always thought they were a little pricey for a guitar made there, but never actually played one myself. There's a couple on eBay atm in the +/-$400 range and was thinking of picking one of those up.Can anyone give me the lowdown on them?

Re: IC-700 Quality Control?

I had one for 2 years. It was an excellent guitar. The only thing I didn't like was the deactivators. The guitar itself played great and had no neck dive even though you would think it would. Great upper fret access and well postioned controls. Also had sustain for days.

So no real quality control issues with your guitar then?

Also, what didn't you like about the D Activators? I'd heard they impart a sort "active" sound. Something I'm not looking for at all myself.

None at all. There was nothing at all wrong with it. The active sound is something I was trying to get away from as I had a guitar with emgs. The deactivators definately do that sound but I just find it sterile sounding. I always wanted to try a tonezone or paf pro with my iceman but never got round to it.

I tried EMGs before and they weren't really my thing.

Sounds like I'll probably have to replace the D Activators if I end up getting an IC-700 then.

Any ideas on what would be a good replacement for them? I'm leaning more towards something with pickup covers.

Tone zone would go great. But really it's down to personal opinion. Try the dimarzio pickup picker on their website.

I just did and it came back with D Activators, Dominions, and Evolutions.

I think the Mustaine active pickups are great. Dean uses them on his models, and I found them to be somewhat passive sounding but with more kick. A great alternative to EMGs.
