Incoming NGD '91 RG770DX RR

Well...I decided to pass on the 1979 Ibanez Artist AR50 and a friend wound up buying it from Guitar Center instead...for $179.99...they said if they had known it was a 1979 they would have had to send photos to the Hollywood Guitar Center "Vintage" Department for pricing and would have priced it at $499.99, so he got a Hell of a deal on it.

I wound up picking up a 1991 "Bensalem, PA" Neck Plate RG770DX Ruby Red in "Player" Condition with a "Naturally Reliced" Body and a Late 90's Replacement Neck. The owner had broken the original neck and sent it back to Ibanez for a replacement in the late 90s.

Oh man, that 770 is nice. There is one on sale here in Brazil in Lazer Blue that I always keep an eye on but the dude is asking quite a high price for a guitar that is kinda beat and the color is a bit faded. I wait hoping that he'll get the price down. IMO the 770DX are the best looking RG ever. Nice scores

Re: Incoming NGD x 2: '91 RG770DX RR & '79 AR-50

Man, if you knew how many times I've heard that! It's okay, he plays "Air Guitar" anyway.

Thanks...yeah...def. needs a red Tone Zone F in the Bridge w/Black Pole Pieces...anything else just does not look right.

Better question is do I swap out the pickups on the '79 AR50...it's bone stock/never modded from what I can tell.

Re: Incoming NGD x 2: '91 RG770DX RR & '79 AR-50

D BY G-S: I did plug it into a Fender Blues Deville and played it a bit at the shop from which I am purchasing it and it sounded good and played very nicely.

FASTMERC: It's a Custom Build -1991 RG550R Neck cut down to 22 Frets on a 1991 B.C. Rich Gunslinger/Assassin USA Body, DiMarzio Virtual Vintage '54 Neck/DiMarzio PAF Pro Bridge, 1986 Edge in White Gold and a friend did the "Bullseye" as my son liked Zakk Wylde's Guitars back when I had it put together for him. Monster player and it sounds great too.

Re: Incoming NGD x 2: '91 RG770DX RR & '79 AR-50

Well...I decided to pick up only the RG770DX RR and passed on the AR50 - only $179.99 at a local shop and I hated to see it sit there, so I let a friend know as he was looking for a decent but inexpensive new toy anyway. Too good a deal to not pass on. The Guitar Center sales guy said they screwed up in i.d.ing it and that it should have been priced out of their "Hollywood Vintage" Department. Est. in the $499.99 range so my friend got a good deal.

As to the RG770DX RR...I haven't cleaned it up or changed the strings, but I did center the nut so the strings are perfectly centered on the fretboard and then plugged it into both my JMP and Blues Classic and I really like the way it feels and plays, which was something I didn't really find w/the Laser Blue RG550 that I recently bought and soon resold. Seller even threw in a Hardshell Case and found the trem cavity cover prior to shipping. Definitely needs a cleaning and I will replace the neck and bridge pickups, but I think that I have finally found a replacement for the Franken-Swirl I have regretted letting go for some time now.

Got both the Neck HB (IBZUSA F4) and Bridge HB (DiMarzio Super Distortion DP100) up for sale. Hopefully they'll sell and I can pick up a Tone Zone F for the Bridge and a Big Brass Block for the Edge.

Re: Incoming NGD x 2: '91 RG770DX RR & '79 AR-50

Here's where it's going so far...

Seymour Duncan "Slash" APH-2 Neck/IBZUSA C3 Middle/DiMarzio Tone Zone F Bridge
Gibson 500K Volume/Fender TBX Tone/5 Way Selector Switch
32mm Big Brass Block

it played great before I took the strings off to clean it up a bit and it's going to sound absolutely awesome once the upgrades are done.

Re: Incoming NGD x 2: '91 RG770DX RR & '79 AR-50

Got the RG770DXRR back about a month ago after upgrading the Neck & Bridge Pickups and adding a Big Brass Block to the Edge. Really like the "Slash" Neck HB and it goes great with the Tone Zone F Bridge! Guitar sounds great through my JMP & Blues Classic Tube Amps and it plays great too. I am very happy with the outcome...LOVE THE FEEL OF THE NECK on this guitar!
