info on 20th rgs

hey yall, (yes i am from the south) i have mondo gas! i must have a road flare red rg 550! I will have the funds by Christmas. I want to know if the 20th anniversary models are much better than any ordinary road flare red rg. i have been told the 20ths have some improvements like, an extra stable 5 pc neck opposed to the 1 pc on the older 1s, and the edge was alittle different. but i want i workhorse, i am gonna play the piss out of this thing collectors item or not.

Re: info on 20th rgs

Well I recently had a 20th in DY....and I've owned at least 10 oldschool 550s...just got another last week. I know some disagree, but the 20th anniversary versions are a whole different thing. IMHO not in the same league as the real deal. The necks feel different, the pups aren't the same.....at least to me.

My advice is to forget about the 20th and get yourself an actual RFR 550.

I'd be willing to bet that the 770DX reissues will be the same deal.....hope not for the sake of those who are coughing up the $1,700 they're asking for em.

Yup....they are,but it'll be worth it. There's one on fleabay that's ending in a few hours. It was at $383 the last time I looked a few hours ago.

Re: info on 20th rgs

Yeah, the older ones have a thick gloss on the neck and the good ones have been played to death. If you find a nice one it is most likely because it is a dog to play for some reason or another. Remember, these were not collector guitars back then so people didn't hold them in collector condition for resale... I recommend the reissue, 5 piece neck with titanium, satin feel. Shiny and new, not crusty and faded. New bridge with tight socket and sharp knife edges, not busted out and loose. Reissue>original.

Re: info on 20th rgs

yeah, i think that id rather have a newer more expensive guitar that a old broken in guitar. besides how much bad stuff can happen to a 20th anny in a year anyways?
